I'm desperately confused (and a beginner, so please humour me...).

All the texts seem to show that you can associate values to a block. EA doesn't seem to allow this. I've tried creating value types and dragging those in, but that comes up as a part. Do I just rename the part as "value"? That doesn't seem correct.

Additionally, I seem to be able to delete the part (rectangle), but it remains on the block. Very confused, but shouldn't I be able to make the block look like the standard as shown in Friedenthal's book?

Furthermore, how do I get an associated requirement to appear on a block? I've managed the association the other way - i.e. have a <satisfy> relationship in a requirements diagram, but shouldn't I be able to get the associativity both ways?

Thanks,
Max

Thanks Phil.

Is it me, or should we really expect EA to explain this sort of thing in their help documentation?

Cheers,
Max

Hi Max

In order to show the values compartment you need to be using the SysML 1.2 MDG and I would advise to disable the SysML 1.1 MDG

Then open a Block Definition Diagram, and drag a valueType element from the project browser to the Block of your choice.

When prompted, choose the option Composite Part

Then when the property dialog opens enter valueType as the stereotype

Press the Delete key to remove the part /property from the diagram

Double click the diagram to open its properties dialog

Click on the Elements Tab and you should see a Values checkbox which you can now check

The values compartment should now be visible

Unfortunately I cannot find a way to expose the requirements compartment

Hope this helps

Phil

Hi Max

There are many ways to go this in EA  15 but this is how I do it

 1. Open the BDD where the block for which the value property is to be added

2. Locate the block in the Browser

3. Click on Property in the BDD toolbox

4. Move to the Block in the Browser and click. You should see the Property added as a child element for the Block

5. Using the Properties for the Property element just added enter the name. Click the Property tab in the Properties and set the type to a SysML ValueType. It must be a ValueType not anything else.

6. Save the changes and you should see the values compartment on the Block on the BDD

Repeat for other value properties and blocks

Hope this helps
