Im dealing with many thousands of psd files containing product images. Most items have been separated from their original background and placed on white. They have a very slight drop shadow to elevate them a bit from the BG.

Now I'm overhauling them all (squared images originally but 4:3 needed) and want to give them all the exact same shadow (mainly through recorded actions). I have recorded the shadow in an action (spread of X px, distance of X px, etc).

Here's how I'd approach this with scripting. First I define reference shadow and reference size, then if image width isn't the same as reference size, I linearly transform shadow values based on ratio of current image width and reference width.

Photoshop Actions are a series of pre-recorded editing steps that you can "play" over your image using Adobe Photoshop on your computer. It's like watching an invisible editor take over your screen for a fraction of a second to set up all the layers you need.

I have designed every step of the action commands to adapt to your image. LSP Actions leave 100% room for flexibility and are non-destructive to your background layer. The open layers included mean you can tweak, reverse engineer and adapt if you like to suit your tastes even further. If you do not have experience in using Photoshop actions, please refer to the LSP online video tutorials. You can also find more information about using Photoshop Actions on Adobe's website here.

Please note: A working knowledge of Photoshop means you will be able to get started quicker in using these. If you are a complete beginner, please follow the video tutorials step-by-step. Lauren at LSP Actions cannot personally walk you through using these, but support is provided in the LSP Actions Facebook Group,

Our products are digital downloads. Once you purchase and download a product, you have gained access so it cannot be returned. However, customers may request a refund under the following circumstances:

The shadow overlays will be most potent on mid-toned backgrounds. If you're using on very light or very dark backgrounds, please adjust the blend mode accordingly. You can also use the bonus actions included to help you apply these to dark or light backgrounds but please be advised the effect will not be as potent.

You are allowed to use the overlays on your images. But it depends on the rules of the competition. Some competitions do not allow you to enter into awards using overlays or elements that are not created by yourself so please check carefully.

You may already be familiar with highlight and shadow clipping warnings, which are standard features in software like Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw. These warnings alert you when a portion of your image becomes pure black or white. While this information is valuable, it can also lead to misconceptions.

Highlight and Shadow Clipping Warning: This functionality displays any areas in your image where the highlights or shadows are clipped, resulting in a complete loss of detail. Clipped areas will print as pure black or white. Strangely, Photoshop lacks this crucial feature, and my action reintroduces it.

Here you can see the standard red and blue clipping warnings for pure white and pure black. Additionally, we have introduced magenta to indicate bright highlights with luminance values above 90 and cyan for shadow areas with luminance values below 10. This enhanced color-coding system provides a more comprehensive understanding of potential detail loss in both highlights and shadows.

My clipping warning Photoshop action is a powerful tool that will help you create prints that truly capture the essence of your images. By providing accurate highlight, shadow, and print clipping warnings, you can make informed decisions during editing, ensuring that your final prints are as stunning as your original vision. Give it a try and see the difference it makes in your workflow and final results. Happy editing!

On our own, we would have been so lost wandering up and down the Narrows looking for the light to hit those canyon walls just right but Jennifer and David had it timed to perfection and we spent the day moving from one jaw dropping scene to the next. Jennifer and David also gave wonderful instruction and worked with each participant one-on-one to help everyone at their own level. I especially appreciated their individual approach that opened up more possibilities for my own photography. They were great at working with me and guiding me to realize my own vision.

The practice and play work we did along the river to learn more about photographing intimate scenes was fun and useful.

The whole workshop was great fun and the camaraderie of the group was fantastic. I couldn't have been happier with the workshop overall.

I have been privileged to take a few workshops in Death Valley with David and Jennifer. I am always very pleased with the experience and results. They are incredibly knowledgeable about photographic opportunities in the area and are able to select best locations based on the weather conditions.

David and Jennifer were great teachers and the Zions workshop was out of this world. They both were wonderful guides and knew when and where to be for the optimal lighting conditions. David and Jennifer also share their unique expertise when it comes to photography and together, offer some great advice. I've been on several workshops with David always come away with something new and I definitely enjoyed this location.

This workshop was nothing short of fantastic. David & Jennifer make themselves available in all aspects of the work. They do an excellent job of scouting locations prior to the workshop to ensure that attendees have the chance to capture the best possible photos while on location. I would strongly recommend taking any workshop from David & Jennifer. They are kind and smart about all things photography.

Death Valley lends itself easily to the black & white format and David & Jennifer are well-placed to ensure that attendees get the best chance to capture those images that most fit one's personal style.

The Crested Butte Wildflower Workshop by David and Jennifer exceeded my expectations! I especially appreciate their gentle manner of individualized instruction, and desire to see us improve our skills artistically and/or technically. They are very knowledgeable of the area, and took us to sites that they researched in the days prior to the workshop to take advantage of the best locations for the variety of scenes we would be photographing: wildflowers vistas and close-ups, sunrise / sunset on a mountain or range, an aspen grove, lake (pond) reflections, and waterfalls. Often, they would shoot a scene with their cameras, and show me how they saw the scene through their lens, and the settings, filters, focal length, etc they used to accomplish that. I had fun with Jennifer showing me some techniques to get abstract images, and both of them pointed out good composition opportunities. Their teaching approach is balanced between time in the field shooting, and classroom processing techniques. I came in with a love for the art of photography, and they elevated my skills so I will enjoy my lifetime passion even more! Overall, it was such a fun and rewarding photography workshop, and a highlight of my photography experiences!

As a Fine Art Photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa, I delight in utilizing the inherent charm of my surroundings. All my sessions take place on location, drawing inspiration from the captivating outdoors. My passion for conjuring whimsical dreamscapes is a direct result of a profound love for the natural world.

I specialize in child and pet portraits and am greatly inspired by all my subjects. I attempt to bring my imagination to life, illustrating something extraordinary and emotive, portraying childhood innocence. When working with imaginative children, I use my creativity and skills to create composites to bring their imaginings to life too.

My fascination with composite photography was sparked primarily by its creative possibilities. However, my initial embrace of this technique was also driven by a desire to overcome challenges I encountered as a natural light photographer, including unfavorable weather conditions and uninspiring locations.

A composite photograph merges multiple distinct images or stock photos into a unified composition. Compositing is becoming an increasingly popular way to create both natural and fantastical visuals; your only creative limitation is your imagination.

You can use your own photos or stock images purchased online or a combination - there is no right or wrong way to do a composite. To me, Photoshop composites are Art, and Art is subjective!

However, there is a downside to composite photography. Composites generally require much more work at the computer than an ordinary portrait and can be time-consuming. So, when clients request composite photographs, you should charge them a higher price for all your extra work.
