Wechecked the settings in Chrome and it was not set to automatically open Adobe Reader after downloading the PDF, and the Adobe Reader extension was not installed, so we weren't sure why this was happening.

On further investigation we found a setting in the Preferences - General tab called "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser". Initially when we tried to turn this setting off it would re-enable itself when we closed and reopened Adobe Reader, however clearing the user's preferences from the registry and trying again worked for us. The setting is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\AutoDocOpen - bIsAutoDocOpenFeatureEnabled dWord 1.

Uncheck the box that says "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser" then press "Enter" That saves the settings. If you just un check it and then close out it will default back on.

It appears the issue stemmed from a specific Adobe Acrobat setting in the Preferences - General tab, related to automatically opening PDFs in Chrome. Despite Chrome settings indicating otherwise, Adobe's setting overrode it. Clearing user preferences from the registry resolved the problem. Further documentation on this feature may be available from Adobe support or forums.

Just fixed this for someone. There is two views of Adobe, "New Adobe" and "Old Adobe". You likely have "Old Adobe" going at the moment and that is why you cannot see the feature. I think this is a bug on the "Old Adobe" settings view.

To correct this, you'll want to go to View at the top and select Enable new Acrobat (about 2/3 of the way down). It'll prompt you to relaunch. From here follow the instructions from above by clicking on menu on the top left and going to prefrences. Uncheck the box and scroll down and click Ok.

Next is just a precaution for me, but close out of Adobe and reopen it. Then under the menu option there should be something about Disable New Acrobat, also about 2/3 of the way down. Click that and it'll prompt to relaunch. When it does, you'll have the old layout back and hopefully the automatic opening of your PDF files will stop.

I am still not seeing the "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser" option even in the New Adobe layout. I have tried everything I have seen in this thread and others and Adobe just does not want me to solve this issue.

Hi @MeenakshiNegi I am also having this problem where I still do not have the "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser" option even in the new Acrobat. Can you please share additional information?

I am also having this problem where I still do not have the "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser" option even in the new Acrobat. And Google Chrome is automatically opening my PDF in Adobe Acrobat. This just started a few weeks ago for me. Can you please share additional information to stop this automatic opening?

I have selected "Ask where to save each file before downloading" in Chrome, however, whenever I download a file from my email it goes directly to download and opens in Word. I don't want them there. I want to choose! I have many folders for different clients and need to compartmentalize before I open the file. I have Windows 10.

I ran into this issue today where chrome was automatically downloading a text file into the downloads folder without asking where to put it even though I had the chrome setting configured to always ask for the location. I also didn't like the idea of resetting all my settings just to try to get this to work. This happened for some types and not others.

UPDATE: I reported the issue with attachments suddenly opening in browser not automatically downloading , and sometimes failing - they said this is a known issue yesterday and they are working on a fix

From what I understand, you are downloading a PDF using Google Chrome and the workflow is either 'Save As' or 'Save link As'.

I believe your Chrome is enabled to Always open with system viewer. When this is enabled, Chrome will automatically use the default application assigned to the file you download.

You can see this option when you download a file. As an example, download a PDF file using your Chrome browser. Google Chrome places a small notification at the bottom of the browser and when you click on it, you will see an option to deselect the 'Always open with system viewer'. See screenshot below:

1. Open Chrome settings.

2. Scroll to the bottom and click Advanced.

3. Scroll to the Downloads tab and click Clear next to Open certain file types automatically after downloading.

After clearing that, you will start to see the notification at the bottom of the Google Chrome when downloading a file. And, this should not automatically launch the default application to open the downloaded file.

I have set all PDFs in Windows (Settings - Default Programs) to open in NitroPro, and they do if I am double-clicking a PDF on already on the computer. But if I download a PDF through Chrome and click on it in the browser window, Chrome opens the PDF.

Unfortunately, I am in a situation where I must download dozens of different PDF labels one at a time and open them one at a time. For each, I need Nitro to open and not the Chrome PDF reader, but I cannot see a way to have Nitro take over this function from Chrome.

- Enter the following in the search field: chrome://settings which you bring you to Chromes settings page.

- Scroll down and select "Advanced" under "Privacy and Security" select Content Settings.

- Towards the bottom of the screen select PDF Documents and move the switch to turn on the option to download PDF files instead of opening them within the browser.

Searching for PDF takes me to a PDF Settings, but this is just, "Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome" with an On-Off switch. Helpful, certainly, as I was at least able to turn off Chrome and simply download all PDFs. Still a nuisance, but a step closer.

Info: There is enough storage for downloading the files. After i donwloaded the files for one webpage and archived them in our system i always delete the files. So there should be no big amount of files laying around.

Hi, check chrome settings and activate accepting downloads of files with the same name (so that no message boxes pop up). Take care of RAM clearing every specified number of files. Here the problem clearly lies with the browser. So kill chrome for a while and restart the environment.

Something that may help you is working on chrome in incognito mode.

The problem with chrome may be that it takes up too much RAM and logs too much information, incl. in cookies. As for the advice when the environment should be cleared (kill all processes which are required to handle cases), I think that the first symptom to clear should be 1 failed attempt to download the file. I assume that the problem will begin then.

The default framework from UiPath may not be sufficient. We have an advanced state transition in our company.

States at our disposal: Initialization, prepare the environment for queuing cases, queue cases, prepare the environment for processing cases, take a case, process, no cases.

Have you tried downloading items in Chrome but they open instead of downloading? If you are using Google Chrome as your internet browser and notice this, don't worry, we can help! If the file automatically opens instead of saving when using Chrome, keep on reading or watch this video!

So, if you click "Always open files of this type (even once!)- ... what happens is that the file will automatically open instead of downloading to the folder, and will open in whatever the default program is for the file type. Then, the file automatically opens instead of saving when I download in Chrome

Click on "Settings" and you'll see a new page pop up in your Chrome browser window. Scroll down to Advanced Settings, click Downloads, and clear your Auto Open options. Next time you download an item, it will be saved instead of opened automatically.

This tutorial will show you how to activate automatic downloads for pages like Online-Convert.com or similar from which you download frequently. Furthermore, we will show you how to block domains that you do not want to automatically download things onto your system.

6. Here, you have several options available. First, you can toggle that the browser asks you before downloading a file (which is highly recommended). Secondly, you can remove or add domains to two lists: blocked and allowed domains. The first will block these domains and websites from automatically downloading file, while the second functions as a whitelist.

An outdated or corrupted browser cache is a common reason for elements on a web page, including PDFs, to not display correctly. Clearing your browser cache should prompt your browser to download up to date content and hopefully fix the issue with rendering your PDFs properly. Please note that you will likely have to sign back into websites in Chrome once you've cleared your browser cookies.

To clear your cache and cookies in Google Chrome, first go to the Chrome menu in the upper right and select More Tools > Clear browsing data or press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL to bring up the Clear browsing data menu. Make sure that Cookies and Cached images and files are checked and then click the CLEAR DATA button.
