I had a little SYRUP show-and-tell at my desk this morning with the
circ. & reserves supervisors from our largest library.
Here are some of their comments:
1. URLs: It's lookin' like library staff would only get the list of
Physical items the prof. is putting on reserve. They had concerns
with profs. putting in their own URLs. If they are mal-formed or
broken would students be expecting the library to fix them? Currently
reserve staff put records in the catalogue for reserve articles or
chapters in e-journals or e-books and determine the best, stable URL
to use. There is a linkchecker run on the catalogue nightly to catch
the bad ones.
So, they were wondering if:
- SYRUP could generate the entire list of everything being put on
reserve, not just the physical items.
- a linkchecker could be run on SYRUP.
- the URL field could be pre-populated with an institution's proxy
prefix & the URL could just be plopped in after it, or it could be
deleted in the case of free resources.
2. We have 1hour, 2hour. 3hour, 4hour, 24hour, 3day, 5day, 7day, 10day
reserve loan periods. They were wondering if that info. could somehow
be pulled from Evergreen & put in an attribute at the Mark items as
Arrived step.
just some things to think about, karen
