Awa Royel's Assyrian Appeal

  1. Assyrian bishop Awa Royel, who supported Israel, and then found out that Israel was killing his own people by funding ISIS in their battle against them.


    Last December, I wrote a number of people warning them about Assyrian bishop Awa Royel's dangerous liaison with the State of Israel. That was in response to the article "Israel as a model for Christian statehood in the Middle East" which was published by the Near East Center on December 23, 2016, which said, "Assyrian Bishop Mar Awa Royel recently proclaimed that he wished to see a free Assyria become a strong ally with Israel."

    Today, Former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Bogie Yaalon who served as defence minister in the current Israeli government has confirmed Israel's Collaboration with ISIS against the Assyrians and others. [1]

    This makes Royel's appeal sound a bit disingenuous considering his work with the United Assyrian Appeal, which is ostensibly "Providing Aid to the Christian Assyrian Military Families in Iraq and Syria in Their Struggle Against ISIS" It seems that the State of Israel plays this man for any type of propaganda they want to put out there for the public to consume. Jumping on every bandwagon that comes running through town isn't a mature way of playing politics unless you want to get your own people killed; which seems to be exactly what Awa Royel is doing.

    Royel is presently the secretary of the Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East and is one of five trustees of the Assyrian Church of the East Relief Organization[2], which openly funds the violence in Iraq and Syria in hope of carving an Assyrian state out of the Nineveh territory surrounding Mosul.

    Of course no actual follower of Yeshue may kill anyone, and if they do, they cease to be followers of the Messiah. There is no ambiguity in the moral imperative of non-violence which we have inherited from Yeshue and the apostles. Non-violence was a fundamental part of the teaching of the early church. Jesus tells us to put down our swords[3], that if people smite us, we are to turn the other cheek [4], and that if we are persecuted in one city to flee to another [5]. There is No Such Thing as Just War and there is no righteous use of violence for the followers of Yeshue, even in self defense. What that means that there are no "Christian Assyrian Military Families" in the first place, just a lie to make political cover for people's desire for violence.

    If the Assyrian people believed Yeshue's words they would turn the other cheek, and if that didn't work, they would flee. But instead of their church teaching them how to turn their swords into plowshares, their church's leadership supports them breaking the commandment not to kill. I ask you for your prayers for the safety of the Assyrian people and the political aspirations of their leaders not to lead them into further peril.
