1000 Seed Bombs

You may remember the making of seed balls from the 2010 Upstate
Permaculture Gathering earlier this year as a planned children's
activity, which then overflowed into the adults area (demonstrating
its across ages appeal!)

If you didn't get a chance to roll some balls then, or are curious
now, it's great fun, playing with mud and seeds, and getting pretty
red hands, then tossing seed balls in subversive sites! Join Craft
Chemistry on May 23rd to give it a try:

Do you have a "recipe" you can share, and a source of seeds?  We can't make this due to a prior commitment, but it sounds like a great activity for a kids group.  Thanks, Kathy McGrath

Kathleen, it is a great activity for kids, imagine smooshing together
mud and clay and getting your hands bright red and gooey!

The recipe used at the Gathering back in March, and a typical recipe
from what you'd find online is a ratio of 5/3/1 - clay/compost or soil/
seeds

The full directions can be found at our Syracuse Permaculture site
here:

Make sure to not overdo the clay amounts so that the seed balls are
not too hard and are able to dissolve easily enough when it rains,
otherwise the seed swill sprout but will then dry out and die if they
are still stuck in the hard clay :>) There are also some seed
recommendations at the previous post, but basically you can just go to
any outlet that sells and get them (you might try wildflowers), you
might want to ensure that they are seeds native to this area.
