Westcott Neighborhood Bulb Project
Bulb Give-Away/Garden Extravaganza
Special Film Showing
HOMEGROWN

Saturday, Oct. 3 - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm the 7th annual Westcott
Neighborhood Bulb Give- a-Way/Garden Extravaganza will be held at
the Westcott Community Center, (co-partner of the project) cor. of
Euclid and Westcott St.

This year we are excited to offer a free showing open to all of
HOMEGROWN co-sponsored by The Alchemical Nursery project.

HOMEGROWN (50 minutes) follows the Dervaes family who run a small
organic farm in the heart of urban Pasadena, Ca. a few blocks from the
Super Bowl. While "living off the grid", they harvest over 6,000
pounds of produce on less than a quarter of an acre, make their own
bio diesel, power their computers with the help of solar panels, and
maintain a website that gets 4,000 hits a day. The film is an intimate
human portrait of what it's like to live like "Little House on the
Prairie" in the 21st Century. www.homegrown-film.com

Westcott neighbors only can pick up 18 free perennial daffodil bulbs.
5,400 will be set aside for the first 300 people to show up from the
Westcott neighborhood.

Any resident from the Westcott neighborhood can pick up a free packet
of 18 mixed daffodil bulbs as long as you are willing to plant them
where they can be seen from the street for all to enjoy. Compost
donated by Toad Hollow Farms, www.toadhollowfarms.com (Please bring
your own container) and planting instructions will be available.. Come
Early! Last year we ran out.

10:00 am - 2:00 pm - Bulb Give Away, food, music, vendors, perennial
plant swap...

projects in CNY.

Plantcycle is planning on being there with a few hundred seed packets
to give away to anyone to attends the Fest. No charge. We will be
having a garden book fund raiser sale, and the Plantswap this season.
We can take in plants after 10:15 am. I have three volunteers this
year and could use a couple more if possile. People are encouraged to
bring a plant to or three to the swap. You turn in your plants and get
a tag that is Small (fits into a 3 or 4 inch pot) a medium (6 to
10inches and must fmostly fill the pot, ) Large is a clump that would
fit into a 1 or 2 gallon pot or a grocery bag tied around the roots.
tubers with greenery need damp newspaper around them, and not let the
roots dry out. Just bulbs may be brought with type, name and color of
bloom, accepted in paper sacks and bags lined with newspaper. Leave
bag accessible for inspection of bulbs or tubers, corms, etc. Also
eligible are houseplants, rooted cuttings, or any perennial clump.
Please make sure to label plants with as much info as possible. We
have one person who contacted with a nice donation of special bred day
lilies, so not the typical orange or star yellow. We expect most
plants will not be in bloom but leave most greenery attached, and just
remove what is begun to die back. daylilies and iris can be trimmed
back about half way. If now sure, come over and take a look and join
in on the second wave of trading, about 11:15 till 12:20 . There will
be information available on the table. If you have a group you would
like the community to know about your garden, your projects, goals
etc..we have a long table to put fliers or even stay and promote your
cause. If you like to help out, please let me know.. Cherrie
Mckinstry-Brunner I get all the mail and replies to this feed in my
email too.
