Casting with the laser cutter !!!

Hey i was at the Bay area makerfaire and found a hakerspace doing coin casting with there laser. the just laser engraved two thin MDF blanks and then pored pewter in to cast have a look at the pics the pewter melting point is below the MDF charing point so the mold can be reused.

Nice!  Would also be good practical joke with Gallium: melting point 85F

So Gallium is basically melts at the temperature of the inside of my house on like a Vegas Tuesday with the fans on full blast.

This post only uses 100% recycled electrons.

LOL that would be funny ive seen a spoon made from Gallium as a joke. The pewter held pretty good resolution, i was suprized it did not char the MDF.. the results where amazing we need to give it a try, Ill order in some pewter.
