Megalovania In A Major Key

Thetrack starts normally, but in the major scale. At 0:32, it becomes an arrangement of the extended My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic theme song in the style and structure of the advertised track. At 1:48, it returns to just being "MEGALOVANIA" in the major scale.

I was looking at playing Megalovania and came across a B flat on measure 41. Normally, I would play a B flat, but since it it is already a B flat from the B flat major chord, I am super confused. Is this a typo from whoever wrote the music, or does something weird happen with the note? I assume it either cancels out or becomes an A, but then wouldn't they just have wrote it as an A or with a natural? How should I play that?

The extra flat in measure 41 is to remind the player that the B's are flat again. So you just play a B-flat there. Successive identical accidentals are never added together, a B-double flat would be depicted with two b's before the same note.

Megalovania is written in the key of D Minor. According to the Theorytab database, it is the 4th most popular key among Minor keys and the 10th most popular among all keys. Minor keys, along with major keys, are a common choice for popular music. It was a normal day in the world of monsters. All monsters were jumping around frolicking in happiness at the fact they were going to be at equals with humanity. But, you see, two portals opened from different dimensions. The first one emerged a female figure with horns and she was wearing normal, everyday clothes. From behind her, emerged more people that were similar in appearance to her. This girl was none other than Vriska Serket.

Vriska and Andonuts stood opposing to them, though they were entering on opposite sides. Frisk got her weapon ready but a familiar funny and lazy bone skeleton stuck his hand out in front of her. This skeleton was Sans.

Halloween Hack was pretty impressive when one keeps the context of which it was made in mind. It is a game that has a lot of its own original content such as sprite work and music, and the game even makes use of mechanics that were under utilized in Earthbound. So it was definitely a well made Hack from a technical perspective, but other than that it falls flat. Story wise, the game is filled with next to nothing but laughable attempts to be edgy and vague symbolism and there was much more grinding needed to progress through than with Earthbound.

The way that Toby used a set of instruments that were mainly used to create soft ambient songs to create this track shows great creativity and innovation on his part. Those first few notes are always addicting and the way it builds itself up always gets you pumped. The use of the Hammond organ for the melody strikes just well enough to not overpower the rest of the track while still sticking out. The only issue I have is with the way it loops in how it just starts from the beginning.

Unlike all the major characters in the game, there is no fight against Sans in any normal playthrough, and the only way you get to fight him is if you not only kill every major character in the game, but also choose to grind out the enemies in every area in the game until there are no more encounters. Even if you kill his brother Papyrus on a normal playthrough, he will not fight you unless you take this specific route. The reason for this is because he promised Toriel that he would not harm any humans that fell into the underworld, and he will only break that promise if you seek to destroy the universe itself. Even in the battle against Flowey on a normal playthrough he does not step in.

Anyway, to finally end this entry, just about any version of this song is amazing. It serves as a kickass final boss theme and its use seems to have a lot of symbolic aspects to it if you look into things. Anyway it was quite interesting to write this and I hope I can write more pieces that go into detail about themes of a story in addition to putting more pieces out about Video Game Music.

Level 1 consists of the game's opening, as we embark on our adventure with the help of the main theme and the Lost Woods from The Legend of Zelda! We will then pause in Level 2, and reflect on our journey thus far through Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts. We finish our quest using the main theme of Final Fantasy 12, and take on the final boss with Megalovania in our third and final level.
