If you are an iOS lover, you know the importance and advantages of Cydia. Cydia is a third party app store consist of many jailbreak apps, tweaks, themes, packages, settings and many more things.

You can customize your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device with Cydia. If you Cydia download on your iOS device, there are no restrictions. You can do anything! It's a whole new differant level of iOS experience.

The way I understand it, WeatherIcon has its own unique icon set that does not affect any other themes you are using. The icons apply only to the status bar and to the icon of which ever weather app you specify, and both of these are options that are off by default.

Thanks Carlton! Just stumbled on your site from a Google search on the eternal 1080 vs 720 debate, found this article, and was shocked to find how much the jailbreak process has improved since having to wipe-restore my iPhone last time. This one just works AND I found a great site on A/V info as well.

I was wondering if there is an app I can get to be able to download ringtones from itunes to my iphone 3g that is jailbroke already? I try to buy ringtones and it says y device does not support it, it has to be iOS 5.0 or earlier. What can I do to be able to get ringtones?

The is a Cydia app called GV Mobile. It was available in the Apple Apps store for several months, then pulled when Apple decided to go Anti-Google Voice. The developer then released it through Cydia. I added it to my list above.

I could never go back to a plain Jane iPhone again, after experiencing the joys of jailbreaking. Now, some of the best apps that I think you missed, and what really make it worth it for me, are the following:

Kirkae and/or ProSwitcher- these apps provide a task switcher which lets you easily switch between your running applications. ProSwitcher lets you swipe between screenshots of your running applications, Palm Pre-style.

Elert- This app pops up a preview of your received emails, so that you know whether or not you need to reply ASAP or can ignore safely until you have the time. I seem to have trouble on it with my phone, though, so YMMV.

Are there other advantages to jailbreak? Do they outweigh what is now a flawless 3GS iPhone? Is there help available to correct what I might (probably will) mess up? And finally: if Verizon gets to sell iPhones, will all this be moot?

I'm trying to distribute an unsigned .ipa via itms-services protocol for jailbroken device WITH NO CYDIA.I went through guides about how to create an unsigned app for cydia from: -jailbroken-iphone-ios-401/ and I managed to make it work except the "Share" option from the Organizer. It says: Error: Codesign check fails... But maybe it's not the issue here.

Taking the .app folder of my app and compress it to .ipa extension with no signature worked, but when I upload my app to my server and try to download it via itms-services protocol, the progress bar on the device is going almost to the end and fails to download....

The itms-services protocol makes requests to two servers: oscp.apple.com, and another server (which you can find out more about on Apple's website). The servers check whether Apple has generated the public keys for the signing certificates, and whether or not they have been revoked.

Normally, there would be no way to bypass this, but what the iPhone checks for is a "bad" response. If it detects one, it rejects the app. If it doesn't receive a response at all, then it doesn't reject the app, however.

So what you want to do here is probably create a custom DNS server, that will list the two Apple servers as two other servers. Then, create a mobile configuration file that will change the iPhone's default DNS server to your server. The application should then install properly.

One note however for you Alexei : unsigned app won't work on an iPhone, even if it is jailbreak. You need at least a self-signed app. Jailbreak removes the need for Apple approved developer signature, it does not remove the need for signature at all.You can self-sign your code with "ldid -S" on a jailbroken device. There is also a ldid version for Mac OS X at

Reason is that /usr/libexec/installd program is checking for valid signature when installing application. This can be patched and disabled with tools like or ) but I wouldn't go that way for two reasons :

Once an iOS device is jailbroken, we can build jailbreak apps (with theos) and it gets installed in the /Applications directory where the preloaded apps run with root privileges. If an app is built with Xcode, once it is installed, it gets into the /private/var/mobile/Applications/ folder, which is supposed to have Apple sandbox enforced (before jailbreak).

What you can do for making your app run with root privileges is creating a startup shell script that has root:wheel ownership and 755 permissions, then create your actual executable with the same ownership, 7555 as permissions (i. e. set its "setuid" bit), then call setuid(0); from within main(), before calling UIApplicationMain().

Package managers like Sileo and Cydia are installed when you jailbreak your iPhone. A Package Manager lets you install third-party jailbreak apps and tweaks onto your iOS device. They are like an unofficial app store.

Cydia is a package Manager ( unofficial appstore ) for iOS devices that lets you download tweaks and jailbreak apps on your iPhone and iPad. To download Cydia on your phone, you need to jailbreak your iOS device using the jailbreak tools listed above.

To download the Cydia app on your iPhone or iPad, you need to jailbreak your device using the jailbreak apps listed below. Some of these jailbreak apps can be directly installed on your device, and some would require a computer to run them using the USB cable connected to your phone.

To delete Cydia from your iPhone, you can either restore your device using iTunes or use the Cydia Eraser app. Cydia Eraser is a useful tool that removes Cydia from your iPhone without updating your current iOS firmware. It means that, if you want to, you can rejailbreak your device and install Cydia again later.

A repo, or repository, is a database full of tweaks and apps that you can add to the package manager ( i.e., Cydia or Sileo ) on your jailbroken device. Package managers usually come with several repo sources pre-installed, but you can add additional repos that give you access to more tweaks.

Recovery Mode is a kind of protection on your iPhone or iPad that lets you do a fresh install of the iOS operating system. Recovery Mode is a useful feature for when some part of the iPhone operating system becomes damaged or corrupted and will not start up correctly. This can happen during a failed jailbreak attempt.

DFU Mode allows you to interact with the operating system without loading iOS or the boot loader. DFU means Device Firmware Upgrade but should not be confused with Recovery Mode, as in functional terms, it is different. DFU is typically used as a last resort should things go badly wrong on your iPhone or iPad, but some tools also use it as part of the process to jailbreak your device.

Thank you for the kind words. We have tried out best to bring in the latest and updated information to jailbreak all iOS versions, starting iOS 4 to the latest iOS 14. Will also cover the upcoming iOS 15 jailbreak when it is released.

It is not recommended to restore factory settings after jailbreaking a device as it can often cause problems and may not entirely remove the jailbreak. However, if you still want to restore your device to its factory settings, here are the steps you can follow:

Remember that restoring your device to its factory settings will erase all the data and settings on your device. This includes any jailbreak modifications you have made and any personal data you have stored on the device. Make sure to back up your device before restoring it to its factory settings.

Auxo's killer feature is its multitasking cards, which show live previews of open apps. But it's the tiny details (settings toggles, multitouch swipe-to-dismiss, expanded music controls) that make it an all-time great.

After installing Zephyr, a short swipe up from the bottom of the screen will bring up the multitasking switcher. A longer swipe up will close your current app. Swipe from the left to return to your most recent app.

Two apps, with one goal: to enhance iOS messaging. Both BiteSMS and Messages+ let you quick-reply to a text without leaving the app you're in, or assign a gesture to compose a new message from anywhere in iOS.

BiteSMS has been around longer, and offers theming and tons of customization. Messages+ is more streamlined, and integrated into the stock Messages app. It's worth checking out both to find your favorite.

Typing on an iPad isn't ideal, but it's tolerable. Editing text, though, is a pain. SwipeSelection improves it dramatically: slide across the keyboard to move the cursor, and slide from either shift key to select text.

Sparrow, one of the best third-party email clients on iOS, doesn't support push notifications. Sparrow+ changes that, while also giving the app an iPad layout and letting you set it as your default email client.

How could we not include SBSettings? This classic jailbreak tweak gives you a quick drop-down menu for a variety of system toggles. You can customize it, theme it, and even view it in Notification Center.

iOS users rejoiced when the standalone Google Maps app hit the App Store. But when you open maps links in Safari or other apps, iOS still defaults to Apple Maps. MapsOpener saves the day by making Google Maps the iOS default maps app.

If you run iPhone apps upscaled on a non-Retina iPad (including the iPad mini), they're so pixelated you'll think you're playing an Atari game. RetinaPad solves this by running them in 3.5-inch iPhones' Retina (960 x 640) resolution.

When you have a jailbroken device, upgrading or restoring is a pain. PKGBackup simplifies the process of reinstalling your Cydia apps. It backs them up, stores them locally or in the cloud, and restores automatically.
