sudden problem with query screen in Change 5.3.1

We have a IBM Rational Change install and we have not modified in several years.  On a version of Change 5.3.1.

Suddenly yesterday we started having a problem with both the Query and Report screens not being able to be displayed properly, see the attached screen shot.

We have tried several things, including re-installing change (to a different directory/port leaving old install in place but disabled), but still get the same problem.  So we don't believe it is a problem with any of the Change install files.  So that leaves what else??
Could user (RDS) or Synergy data cause this problem?
How about a problem with a Synergy binary?
A change IT made to our server?

We're grasping as to why this is happening.

Server is Linux (Red Hat).  The problem shows up in any browser we have tried (IE11, Firefox, Chrome)

I’m one version behind you (5.3) but I don’t believe that area has changed in your version.  Based on your error, I’d check your configuration to see if the trend reports are in your wsconfig directory.  In the user_framework.cfg you will find this line:

I suspect one of the html report files is missing in your configuration (either chart_rpt.html or something that file uses).  For example, that files lives here in my UNIX world:

 

…wsconfig/templates/pt/reports/user_framework/chart_rpt.html

"I assume that is from the Reports package ... I am not sure what they mean by using the 5.3.1 for several years without modifying it?
I assume that they still have changed something in the process package or in the reports package.
Another hint would be to check in the reports package (configuration file first) the "breakdown_trend" report and check all related files/directories if there are still on the right place."

Todd, both of those screens access user specific data for saved queries and reports etc.  Does this occur for all uses?  if you create a clean new user, does it happen for them?  That data is stored in rds as I recall.

Thank your for your quick reply (and Richard also).

I mean we have not modified the install, or any global reports (thru report builder) for a very long time.  Only user data and user created queries and reports.
Also, we tried a brand new install of Change and still have the problem.  Presumably all files should be in place for the new install.  I have verified that at least all of the direct references to other files in the definition of breakdown_trend exist in the templates folder.

We think we may have a handle on the cause (or at least a work around).  If we connect Change to a different RDS, then the problem goes away.  Of course, so does many user preference, saved queries, etc.  Do you think it possible corrupted RDS data for the admin account (we use ccm_root) could cause our problem?  We are thinking of just clearing out the RDS entry for this user.

It happens for all users.  So do you think this could be corrupted RDS entry for ccm_root?  That is what I'm thinking now.  (connecting to a different RDS works around the problem, but of course makes all user saved data go bye-bye).

We had an issue with our LDAP related to user saved reports.  In our case it was only impacting one user.  I really don’t recall exactly what the user was seeing now (I lost all my notes during the flood).  I think what we ended up doing to fix the problem was to delete that account and create a new one.  If you suspect this is your ccm_root account, you could try that I suppose.  You will lose anything ccm_root has stored in the LDAP.  If you perform LDAP backups and you know when it was “good” versus when it went bad, you could restore the last good backup.  That will impact anything anyone saved since then but that should be less of an issue then starting with a clean one.  In our case, I did work with support on that issue so you might be able to have someone there pull that PMR.  I just looked and I can’t access any PMRs older than 2014.

It could certainly be a corruption of the shared data under CCM_ROOT ... that is where the shared queries reports etc are stored ... do you have a backup of rds that you could go back to?

We don't have separate backups of just the RDS data.  So, we'd have to get from system backup (which history shows for us, can take some time for IT to get for us).

We have already duplicated the problem with a test Change install, a test RDS, and a copy of the production RDS data.  We then were able to fix the problem by deleting the ccm_root entries in RDS and restarting Change.

We are going to do the same for the production server soon to get users working.  Then we can request the backup restore (to a diff location ;-) ) from IT and export/import the ccm_root data later.
