WHAT - invites you / your NGO
TO DO WHAT - to participate in a training session
FOR WHAT - for Monitoring how possible is the Access of Information from Public Authorities in Cyprus, island-wide.
WHEN - from 10:00 until 17:00, Saturday, 10th APRIL 2010
WHERE - at the premises of CCMC (Cyprus Media Community Centre). Situated between Fulbright / Goethe premises and Ledra Palace Hotel.
WHAT WILL WE DO - our partners from Spain / UK, experts on Information Access, will provide training on how to request information and evaluate the Access to Information and the transparency of Public Authorities / bodies and will also speak about the importance of the Right of Access to Information.
WHY DOES "THE RIGHT OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION" MATTER
- It is a fundamental human right, ratified by the Council of Europe, that currently you CANNOT enjoy fully in Cyprus.
- Free Access to Information reinforces Transparency and Accountability of Public Authorities: How all this money is spent? Who and why is hired in the Government? What are the internal workings of Public Authorities? What are politicians and public officials do and discuss in committees and sessions?
- It reinforces active citizenship.
- It reinforces participation of the people in decision making in the government
- It helps and encourages people to more effectively claim their rights in a civilized manner.
WHAT'S IN FOR ME / MY NGO
- You / your NGO will learn about every citizen's right to Access Information held by Public Authorities.
- You will be informed what is being done in Cyprus and other countries about promoting this Right.
- You / your NGO will learn how to systematically approach Public Authorities, ask for information you would like have access to, record the results, provide feedback to the project.
- You / your NGO will be rewarded with the symbolic amount of 250 EURO for your monitoring activities.
SNACKS / LUNCH AVAILABLE - Yes, snacks, beverages and lunch break provided for free.
