The next time you see a child or children thatyou are curious about, start with asking about the child instead of theirdifferences. Always keep your comments or questions positive. Here are some ideasto get the conversation going:

We have come a long way as a society, but we have further to go. We need to work on becoming more accepting and understanding of neurodiversity. Parents of children who have invisible or visible disabilities have a significant amount on their plate, from making sure their children are receiving a proper education to dealing with numerous visits and calls with doctors, specialists, and the pharmacy. A friendly comment or question goes a long way!

I am very busy streaming videos on youtube because today is so boring and I have nothing to do. When I am searching a movie on youtube, I didn't know that I unexpectedly clicked a video. I was shocked when I see the title "Like Stars on Earth"(Every Child is Special). I said to myself " Ha? Every child is special? Why....?" Because of my curiosity, I watch the movie without hesitations. I feel that after watching this movie, I will get something new.

Taare Zameen Par (titled Like Stars on Earth internationally) is a 2007 Indian drama film produced and directed by Aamir Khan. The story is all about Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi, an 8-years old boy who cannot cope with the academic demand in school. He found his self-happy for everything he wants to imagine. The letters he sees are moving and when he writes, his letters and numbers are sometimes inverted. Because of his difficulties in school and family, he became depressed and confused.

His parents then decided to move him to a new school that will teach him better and far away from home, which, they did not know that will make Ishaan more depressed. Ishaan is having a hard time coping and adjusting and his only stress reliever is through painting.

Ishaan is like my young cousin Eric who has dyslexia. His parents and teachers were struggling in teaching him. He doesn't know how to read and write even though the teachers tried their very best. I still remember those days how doleful my aunt is because of him. He was 10 years-old at that time.

We received many judgments from other people. They oftentimes said that the future of Eric is nothing. He will never be a successful man. He should be ready because, in the end, he will be just a beggar asking for a money. It's too tough to be encompassed by an evaluative neighbor. They will just keep on criticizing a person's imperfections.

Today, our neighbors were virtous. We don't hear now a judgments from them. Maybe that is because he is an Electrical Engineer now. Those people who looked down him is now regretting. We are very grateful because of them, we were inspired and motivated.

Why do my cousin is now a successful man, he is unable to read and write before? Well, his mother is very optimistic. She did her best so that Eric will be able to read and write. Even though she is tired in teaching him, she didn't give up until he finally knows to read.

In the movie, I have learned that I should not compare myself to others. Comparing yourself is one of the reason why you will be discontented and and got envious to others success. Remember, there's no comparison between sun and moon, they both shine at the right time.

"A child is like a butterfly in the wind. SOme can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different. Each one is special. Each one is Beautiful."

State programs and services can assist you and your child with special needs from birth through school. These children with special needs include those who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), blind or visually impaired (BVI), or have cognitive and behavioral issues, such as autism and learning disabilities.

Screening is the first step in identifying possible conditions your child may have. Your child can get screened at the hospital when they are born, by your primary care physician or doctor, or through a public health clinic.

Most newborns are screened for certain conditions right after birth. These screenings include a hearing screening, blood screening, and Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) screening. If your newborn is identified as possibly having a condition, your hospital will refer your child to a specialist or a public health program. Learn more about the Georgia Newborn Screening Program.

If you notice any possible conditions after birth at any age, contact your primary care provider or physician for a screening and a referral for specialist services. You can also find a public health clinic near you that provides screenings and referral services using the Georgia Maternal Child Health Coordinator Locator.

There are several statewide early intervention programs and educational services that support children with special needs. Staff will work with you and your child to access appropriate services, connect with doctors or specialists, and prepare for transition to school.

Georgia Parent Infant Network for Educational Services (Georgia PINES) is a statewide early intervention program for families of children from birth to age 5 with a diagnosed hearing loss and/or visual impairment. This program is administered by the Georgia Department of Education. Learn more about Georgia PINES.

Georgia Mobile Audiology provides newborn hearing screening follow-up, diagnostic infant hearing evaluations, and referrals to audiologists for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Learn more about Georgia Mobile Audiology.

Georgia Autism Initiative is a statewide early intervention program that offers Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) screenings, family coaching and support, transition planning from birth to 21 years of age for children with ASD and their families. This program is administered by the Georgia Department of Public Health. Learn more about the Georgia Autism Initiative.

Many children with special needs can find support within their school district. Some children may be eligible for and would better benefit from state schools with specialized curriculum. Work with your early intervention program staff to determine which option would work best for your child.

A State is eligible for assistance under Part B of the Act for a fiscal year if the State submits a plan that provides assurances to the Secretary that the State has in effect policies and procedures to ensure that the State meets the conditions in 300.101 through 300.176.

If placement in a public or private residential program is necessary to provide special education and related services to a child with a disability, the program, including non-medical care and room and board, must be at no cost to the parents of the child.

The State must have in effect policies and procedures to demonstrate that the State has established a goal of providing full educational opportunity to all children with disabilities, aged birth through 21, and a detailed timetable for accomplishing that goal.

The State must ensure that each public agency takes steps to ensure that its children with disabilities have available to them the variety of educational programs and services available to nondisabled children in the area served by the agency, including art, music, industrial arts, consumer and homemaking education, and vocational education.

In providing or arranging for the provision of nonacademic and extracurricular services and activities, including meals, recess periods, and the services and activities set forth in 300.107, each public agency must ensure that each child with a disability participates with nondisabled children in the extracurricular services and activities to the maximum extent appropriate to the needs of that child. The public agency must ensure that each child with a disability has the supplementary aids and services determined by the child's IEP Team to be appropriate and necessary for the child to participate in nonacademic settings.

Except as provided in 300.149(d) (regarding agency responsibility for general supervision of some individuals in adult prisons), an SEA must ensure that 300.114 is effectively implemented, including, if necessary, making arrangements with public and private institutions (such as a memorandum of agreement or special implementation procedures).
