Mostinternational visitors going to Thailand arrive in Bangkok first. Although you'll find more frequent flights, trains, and buses from Bangkok to Phuket during high season (November to March), there are always many transportation options for the rest of the year, too.

Flights depart from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport for Phuket International Airport several times a day and take only one hour. During a weekday, you can find very reasonably priced one-way flights from Bangkok to Phuket, but expect prices to be higher on weekends and during high season.

Money Saving Tip: Evening flights are cheaper and a good choice if you don't mind navigating Phuket at night. While May to October is the rainy season in Phuket, the months of June and July tend to see heavy but short rains (usually in the late afternoons) and plenty of sunshine the rest of the time. If you're trying to save money, this is the best time to fly to Phuket, as it's considered low season, and flights are heavily discounted.

Trains don't go all the way from Bangkok to Phuket, but you can hop on one until you reach the town of Surat Thani and then switch to a bus for the rest of the journey. The train ride takes anywhere from 8.5 to 12 hours, depending on which train you choose. Most trains are sleepers with AC and you can choose between 1st and 2nd class tickets.

The bus ride from Surat Thani to Phuket is an extra four to five hours, but the buses are spacious and comfortable. The Phantip Travel Company has modern buses that leave directly from the Surat Thani Railway Station towards Phuket, so you don't have to worry about getting into town for a connection.

Prices vary widely throughout the year and sometimes the time of the day, so check carefully before booking to pick the best option. You can see train times on the official railway site or book directly through an online travel agency. Keep in mind that if you do it this way, you'll have to book train and bus tickets separately, so make sure you allow enough time for transfer and delays.

Money Saving Tip: The Thai Railway also has a fans-only (meaning, no AC at all), no-beds train that runs between Bangkok and Surat Thani once a day. If you think you can stand making the trip without cool air, you can get a cheaper ticket.

Buses to Phuket leave either from the Southern Bus Terminal or the Mo Chit Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok, and all stop halfway along the route for 30 minutes, so you can get some coffee or just stretch your legs. This is actually inconvenient if you're on the night bus, but a welcome break if you're taking the daytime one. You can get tickets directly at the station or online through a travel agency.

Keep in mind that while trains often have food vendors on board, buses don't sell snacks or drinks. You'll either have to bring extra water with you or wait till you reach the halfway point of the trip and the bus makes a stop to buy something.

Exploring Phuket: Need ideas on what to see and do while in Phuket? Take a look at our article on top-rated tourist attractions on Phuket Island for tips on choosing the best beaches, finding amazing viewpoints, and day trips you won't want to miss.

The Bangkok to Phuket plane is the fastest option to get to the island, as its trip duration is just 1 hour 25 minutes. The ticket cost for Bangkok Airways and Thai International Airways starts from $40. Planes depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport, and there are no overnight flights. Getting from Phuket Airport to popular beaches takes 30-60 minutes, and you can take a taxi for that. You can also fly there by low-cost airlines (AirAsia, NokAir) from Don Mueang Airport. Though these plane tickets are cheap (from $22), low-cost carriers are not so reliable: your flight can be cancelled or postponed indefinitely.

The train departs from Hua Lamphong railway station. You can get to it from Suvarnabhumi Airport by metro: take a high-speed line Airport Rail Link (the ground floor of the airport building) to Makkasan station, then make a change to the MRT underground metro line to Hua Lamphong station.

Once you arrive in Phuket, take a taxi to get to your hotel as soon as possible and finally relax after the trip. Transfer from Phuket Airport to the beaches of Kata, Karon and Patong will take you to the place in 1-1.5 hours, and from the new bus terminal Phuket 2 - in 40 minutes. The driver will wait for you as close to the arrival area as possible and help with your luggage.

Travel from Bangkok to Phuket can be both rather cheap and quite expensive. It all depends on the trip duration and the comfort level necessary for you. We wish you a pleasant journey and a lot of incredible emotions from your holidays!

Those who already know how to get to their hotel should learn more about Phuket City Transport: what types of buses there are, where to buy a ticket and how to refill it. Plus, a lot of useful information about how to rent a car with or without a driver.

Since moving to Phuket, Thailand and hosting people from all over the world thanks to Couchsurfing.com, I am often asked what the best way to get from Bangkok to Phuket is. Having lived in Thailand for almost two years now and traveling often, I have had the experience of most all the recommendations I am about to make. Your preferred form of transportation may not be the best option for somebody else traveling with a smaller budget or with more limited time constraints. I will, therefore, cover 6 different options to get you from Bangkok to Phuket from fast to free by either of these options: Plane, Train, Bus, Boat, Hitchhike or Driving.

Since Bangkok is the capital of Thailands and also where the largest international airport is Suvarnabhumi, it makes sense that many people begin their journey in there. If I were to recommend a particular path, I would say to spend 1 day in BKK then head to Chiang Mai, then south to Phuket and looping back up to Bangkok via Koh Samui and Phangan. The other option would be doing that in complete reverse order, you will then get to experience most of the key areas in Thailand. This does exclude equally incredible places like Ayutthaya or Chiang Rai.

Taking the plane is by far the most convenient and efficient ways to travel from Bangkok to Phuket, and with low prices by Thai Lion and Air Asia. You can expect to fly most times of the day anywhere from 1000 baht or $20 USD and up depending on promotions and season. If you plan on doing this and have some time after spending a few days in Phuket then I would recommend taking the ferry from Krabi and island hopping in Samui and Phangan on your way back to BKK.

The ferry from Bangkok to Phuket is not the most luxurious or time effective ways to get there, but if you have the time, taking the ferry island hopping on your way can be the most fun. By the time you reach Koh Samui or Phangan, you will have tons of options for things to do like partying in Chaweng or going to a Full Moon Party. You can then even stop at Koh Tao on your way to Krabi before finally making it to Phuket. This route requires changing ferries on each island and the cost starts anywhere from 200 baht. Another option is to fly from BKK to Samui and then boating to Krabi.

The Train travel time is approximately 12 hours and will cost you anywhere from 1000 baht up. This is a good option for someone who wants a sleeper room or may not feel comfortable taking the ferry out in the open water. You can conveniently check the travel timetables online via the SRT website.

Regardless of whether you are catching a ride from the pier in Krabi or all the way up north from Bangkok, this is by far the cheapest way to travel. Given the lack of control you have over your method of transportation in this scenario, you will need to expect your trip to take significantly longer, especially from BKK all the way down Surat Thani.

No, there is no direct bus from Phuket to Bangkok. However, there are services departing from Phuket and arriving at Wat Ratchanatdaram via Mochit 2 Bus Depot. The journey, including transfers, takes approximately 12 h 45 min.

The night market was packed, with a festive lively atmosphere. Most people were locals, though there were handfuls of other tourists there as well. The market consisted of a street blocked off from vehicle traffic lined with vendors down the middle and along both sides. The buildings lining the street were interesting as well, more of a colorful European style architecture from Portuguese influence, with spectacular artwork on a few.

Besides BJJ, both Tiger Muay Thai and Phuket Top Team offer a range of fitness and fighting sport classes such as MMA, crossfit, wrestling, muay thai. Both gyms provide really hardcore, immersive training programs, including the options of on-site lodging. Both include multiple areas (indoor and outdoors) to accommodate classes of multiple disciplines.

The second class was taught by Alex Schild. The technique was a little newer and more challenging for me, but after some repetitions and adjustments, I was able to get a decent approximation of the main movements.

Bangkok sits on a flat river plain in the Chao Phraya River Delta. The river winds through the city, dividing it into modern and traditional sides. It is a thriving metropolis with a vibrant cultural scene. Visitors flock to cultural sites like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun and love to eat their way through the delicious street food scene and shop in the night markets.

Around eight daily trains leave Bangkok for Surat Thani. The journey takes 8-12 hours, and you can choose between daytime trains or overnight trains with sleeper berths. Ticket prices are between 5-45 USD and can be booked online or bought at the train station. Make sure to choose a seat or sleeper berth in an air-conditioned car.

Buses to Phuket from Surat Thani depart from different locations. The most convenient are the buses that leave from the train station. There are many to choose from, with departure times between 06:40 and 14:10 daily. It takes 4.5-6 hours to reach Phuket, and tickets start from 10 USD.
