Hello all,

A new, more unified image set for SBOL Visual is now available. The symbols have not changed from the 1.0 specification, but stroke style and canvas size are now standardized, and symbols are positioned so that they are aligned to a center baseline. The set is available in svg, pdf, and png format.

The symbol sets are available for download here:

The SBOLv page has also been updated:

these look great! Thanks!

The SVG version is very useful.

I have a quick question: in the specification document [1] the name for the little dome symbol is changed to Translation Start Site, a rare term, it was 5'UTR last time I looked and RBS before that. Translation Start Site is the first codon translated, ie more commonly known as the start codon.  Calkhoven et al [2] is an example where the authors use both terms essentially interchangeably. This is significantly different in meaning than RBS or 5'UTR.

Could you clarify where this decision originated? I would request the term be changed back to 5'UTR.

I'm going to start using the new symbols right away!
thanks again,

-mike

Mike,

Let me start with a smile  :-D

This one has gone back and forth at least three times.  I'm going to do homework on this topic.  I'll provide a report to the SBOL Developers at the SBOL Workshop (including an email of the report to members who aren't attending).  I'll use this case to start the discussion on how the symbols and symbol meanings will be vetted and approved by the SBOL Developers.

Should be fun!

;-D
