I am a bit confused and concerned about upgrading my 2021 version of QuickBooks to 2024. I have several clients that wish to make payments by credit card. I see this function is going to be disabled soon. I see a big push to go to QuickBooks Online but also a little leery. Not sure why, just am.

I have seen some posts where some are not pleased with the 2024 version (buggy) and it is costly...

I guess am looking for advice. I manage properties and have 7 clients that I have set up with their own companies within my program and don't wish to have any problems. I do not recall too many issues with previous upgrades.

You can also find a step-by-step video guide in our How to upgrade your QuickBooks software article. If you choose to go with QuickBooks Online, you can follow our Getting Started article for detailed steps on using the platform.

I'm looking to upgrade a QuickBooks Pro 2007 file to the Desktop Pro 2019 version. From what I've found on the Intuit forums, it's necessary to either use an upgrade took or trial versions to upgrade the file. Unfortunately, the older versions I am finding on the Intuit website are non-trial versions requiring a license key.

I'd like to perform the upgrade process without a paid support call just to perform the steps listed. Is there a reputable source or Intuit web location for these, or is there a better process to perform?

They have finely let me upgrade them to QB Enterprise 21 and the database conversion runs ok but the then we have issues with random crashing of QB on the desktops. QB Enterprise support has not been able to help us get to the problem. My thoughts is its older data file that is 1.5 GB and the file goes back to QB 14.

When this all started back in Jan it was an in place upgrade to Ent 21 but when it failed we went back to Ent 18 and recovered from backup. Now in the troubleshooting environment it is a clean install of Ent 21 on a fresh load of Server 2019 Std. in a new Hyper-V VM with with a import and conversion of a Ent 18 backup.

Also, probably not your issue, but something that caused me PTSD. If you are running Quickbooks on a domain controller you can have conflicts with the default DNS ports, which will cause issues wit the Quickbooks services. This mostly affects multi user mode.

Note we can get it to open 50% of the time if the data file is on the local machine. But if we take that working file and move it to the server that where the problems come back, i will say that sometime it will open on the server BUT only 10% of the time.

Intuit has started to send notices to QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and earlier users, informing them that the software will lose support by May 31, 2024. Although users have the option to upgrade to a newer supported QuickBooks version, this must be completed prior to July 31, 2024.

Additionally, Intuit has recently decided to stop selling certain Desktop products to new customers effective from this date. Organizations utilizing QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier 2021 and earlier are advised to prepare today for the upcoming changes.

After May 31, 2024, your QuickBooks Desktop 2021 software will be discontinued. This includes all 2021 versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, QuickBooks Desktop Premier, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions v21. Other Intuit products are affected by the software discontinuation.

When you upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop program to a newer version year, you will also need to upgrade your QuickBooks company file. This will allow the file to be opened in your new version of QuickBooks Desktop. You will only need to upgrade the file once, and since Qbox will sync the file, your upgraded file will be shared with all Shared Users and Team Members who have access. Please note that when your company file is upgraded to a newer version year, users sharing the file will also need to have the new (same) version year of QuickBooks Desktop installed on their computer to open the file; the edition (Pro, Premier, Contractor, etc.) within the same year can be different.

Enterprise Edition is the only exception to this rule. If you upgrade the file to a newer version year with your Enterprise Edition, then all users who access the file after the upgrade will need the same year of Quickbooks as well as the Enterprise Edition to open the file.

The following instructions are only for upgrading your company file that is located in your Qbox folder. You must install the new version of QuickBooks Desktop before upgrading your file. In addition, QuickBooks recommends that you prepare each company file for the upgrade. Last week we had a prospect call in. They were a 75 person company, doing more than $50M in annual revenue. They were using QuickBooks Online. They had several versions cobbled together, they were running most of their reports in Excel, and were incredibly frustrated that their accounting system was holding them back from growth. It was far, far past the time to upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise, but because no one had told them they had been experiencing pain all year long.

So we wanted to make sure we keep our customers informed on some of the signs it might be time to upgrade to a larger, more robust version of QuickBooks, or at least get on the latest version of the software.
