Inquiry – GSoC 2026 Participation and Beginner Contribution Opportunities in SymPy

Hi SymPy community/Mentors,

My name is BHAKTI, a first-year engineering student from VIT PUNE. 

I’m very interested in contributing to SymPy and aiming to apply for GSoC 2026 under the PSF umbrella. I’d like to ask:

1. Will SymPy be participating in GSoC 2026?

2. Are there beginner-friendly issues or a mentor I can connect with for guidance?

3. How can I make meaningful contributions now (docs, tests, small bugs) so I build up toward the application?
