Question about Polynomial GCD idea

Hi, SymPy community!

My name is Liubov Kryzhalka , and I’m a student interested in contributing to SymPy.

I was preparing a proposal for Google Summer of Code 2026, but unfortunately missed the deadline. However, I’ve already made two contributions to SymPy and I would really like to stay involved.

I am particularly interested in the "Polynomial GCD" idea. I saw that there is an open issue related to it, and I wanted to ask about the current state of this work.

Would it be okay if I start working on this issue and contributing, even though I am no longer applying for GSoC this year?

I would really appreciate any guidance on how to get started.
