FYI, sharing this with SymPy. Maybe someone can attend and report back.

Sincerely,

Jason

GSoC and AI where do we go from here?
The GSoC Team is looking forward to live discussions with GSoC mentors and org admins on the AI challenges that occurred during the 2026 program. We look forward to uncovering strategies to improve organization's internal processes, as well as how the GSoC Program can be adjusted to help all of you for next year.  Everyone is welcome to join us and to discuss their ideas.

Some conversation starters:

1) Requests for Google to set AI Guidelines for GSoC - what are y’all actually asking for here?

2) Addressing the influx of AI-generated proposals, pull requests, and spam contributions that consume maintainer time

3) Creating a repo to add the tools GSoC Orgs are using to battle the AI spam and help with proposal reviews

If you can’t make it to this Roundtable, don’t worry, we’ll  be sharing the notes of the session shortly afterwards.

We look forward to hearing from you Wednesday!

Best,
Stephanie

They will post an AI-generated summary of the call.

Some points that came out:

  • other orgs are requesting GSoC candidates to post a video of themselves as a filtering technique (some concerns about privacy or unwillingness have been raised),
  • skepticism about AI detection tools in text, they were mostly convinced AI detection won't work (and may get people using translators as false positives),
  • applicants reviewing period will probably be extended by one week in 2027,
  • orgs are free to allow or forbid AI usage as they want.
