Actually it is quite common in general on GitHub that there will be no
reply to a message. This is not something that is unique to the sympy
repo. Basically people will see the messages as they come in and might
respond immediately or fairly soon. alternatively no one will reply
but then years later someone might look at the issue and comment much
as Wasif did in the linked issue.
In the case of GitHub issues, often answering a question means doing
most of the work to fix the issue so unless someone knows the answer
immediately it is likely that no one will answer the question.
Unfortunately right now there are just too many people opening PRs,
opening issues and commenting on issues so it is entirely possible
that you can ask a question on the issue that no one will answer or
that you can make a PR to fix the issue but no one will review the PR
either.
