Hi everyone,

My name is Rishab Kumar. I am a First year B.Tech student
in Mathematics and Computing at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of
Petroleum Technology.

I am applying for GSoC 2026 to work on improving integrating
factor methods in SymPy's ODE solver.
I chose this project
because integrating factors are something I study in my
degree — and when I discovered that SymPy cannot solve
equations I can solve by hand, I genuinely wanted to fix that.

I have submitted my proposal and made my first contribution
to SymPy:

https://github.com/sympy/sympy/pull/29458

I have been studying the ODE module this week — specifically
single.py, classify_ode(), and the FirstExact class
architecture.
I understand where the gaps are and I am
confident I can deliver the three new hint classes proposed.

Any feedback on my proposal or suggestions on where to start
in the codebase would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Rishab Kumar
