Hi all,

It is my pleasure to announce the release of SymPy 1.6rc2 which is the
second and hopefully last release candidate for SymPy 1.6. This is a
preview release and its use is not recommended in production settings.
Please do test this out because unless we hear of problems this will
shortly become the next release of SymPy.

There are not many changes since 1.6rc2. In particular a change to the
ordering of subs since 1.5.1 was reverted and some of the modules
importable from sympy in 1.5.1 but removed in 1.6rc1 were re-added as
objects in a wrapper that emits deprecation warnings:
https://github.com/sympy/sympy/pull/19345
https://github.com/sympy/sympy/pull/19316

This pre-release can be installed with pip using

$ pip install -U --pre sympy

There are a large number of changes since 1.5.1. The full release
notes are here:
https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/Release-Notes-for-1.6

Note that there is a section on deprecations and compatibility breaks
at the top of the release notes page that lists a number of
significant changes.

One particular change of note is that this is the first release of
SymPy that does *not* support Python 2.7. The supported Python
versions for SymPy 1.6 are 3.5-3.8.

The following people contributed at least one patch to this release (names are
given in alphabetical order by last name). A total of 117 people
contributed to this release. People with a * by their names contributed a
patch for the first time for this release; 73 people contributed
for the first time for this release.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this release!
