Following the story of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers deals with four different storylines. Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) escape from the clutches of the orcs, meet Treebeard the Ent, and plan an attack on Isengard, the fortress of Saruman, with his help. The extended version turns this 179-minute movie into a 235-minute movie.

According to a new press release from Hulu (which is majority-owned by Disney, with NBCUniversal holding a minor stake), September will see the removal of the entire currently available Lord of the Rings franchise movies from the streaming service. These include The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King from the original trilogy, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), the first movie in the prequel film series starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.
Earlier this year, former Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy stated that Disney expected the Disney+ service to become profitable by the end of fiscal 2024. Following this, McCarthy and reinstated Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger announced that a robust content curation for the streaming service would be put in motion, and in late May, the axe fell.
