Thanks to everyone who has joined this group or is following
@symfonyshowdown or @travib on twitter.

Progress in the first 24 hours:

secured hosting sponsors for up to 50 teams.(@servergrove)
secured repos for 50 teams(@Assembla_agile)
secured design for site (@centresource)

recruited a judge (@jwage)

tentatively decided on the dates of January 16-17th, but would like
your guys opinions on that date. I picked that date because it is well
after new years, before valentines, and before symfonylive, just in
case someone will sponsor the winners to go to symfonylive, or in case
I can get enough in donations to make that happen.

I am looking for ideas right now about potential sponsors, and
potential competition categories. Right now my category ideas are:

Best Doctrine driven team (jwages pick!)
Best App over all (will be a tough one)
2nd over all
3rd over all
best one man team (if there are any)

If anyone wants to take over any part of this or help me put it
together, that would be great.

Things I have on my plate:
securing sponsors for prizes
putting together app and registration system
gathering competitors (getting the word out)
gathering qualified "expert judges" (I have every intention of hunting
down Kris, and a few other members of core and begging shamelessly)

Finally I am putting together a subset of the site where people can
request apps to be built. Lets say a team wants to compete but is
idealess, the can visit the idea list and get going quickly.

Stay tuned and have a nice day.

It would be great if both the registration system and all the entries
source code can be made open source and freely available.

Additional category:

- best plugin

great way to start!

Wow, really fast start. What types of prizes are we looking to have?
I'd like to see if I can
find some sponsors - but not sure exactly what to ask for. Also, per
the date, my only concern
is that people will still be hungover & disorganized from the holiday
season. I'm cool with it
otherwise though, assuming of course we can get everything together by
then.

Once we get a site put together with specifics, I can definitely start
pushing the word out via
my blog to help gather competitors - I'm sure the entire community
will jump to help in this regard.

Ok, I've got some self-educating to do - I'm not from a rails
background so this is all new stuff for me.

Awesome start indeed!
