As you are probably aware, iDigBio is currently pursuing its final year of secure NSF funding with a scheduled termination of 31 August 2026. However, we have requested and been approved for an NSF no-cost-extension (NCE), which we anticipate will allow us
to continue into 2027.
We wanted to alert you that we are preparing for a transition of iDigBio’s website and wiki.
However, there will be no impact to access of iDigBio’s data portal or the several hundred portals of the Symbiota network. Soon, the iDigBio.org URL will land on a simple webpage with minimal links, including our Zoom events hub, our existing data portal,
an archive of our legacy website on the Wayback machine, and a new GBIF hosted portal that will become the future face of iDigBio. Additional details about the transition will be forthcoming via listservs and social media. We are making this transition to
comply with web accessibility standards as required by our institution and with recognition that the iDigBio project is winding down.
The legacy iDigBio website has been archived on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine and will be available in perpetuity though performance may be slow (
http://web.archive.org/web/idigbio.org).
Our website will remain in its current state (
https://www.idigbio.org/) until 24
April, after which it will be transitioned to the minimal single-page format. Likewise, links to
iDigBio.org URLs from outside websites will no longer be functional after
24 April. Since many of the digitization and data mobilization resources available through the iDigBio website and wiki have been contributed in whole or in part by our users and collaborators, and may be more difficult to access from the archive than they
are presently, we encourage you to visit iDigBio.org at your earliest convenience to download and preserve on your hardware any resources you may have found helpful to your digitization activities.
Thanks for your patience and support!
Best
