This is using WinFax on Win95. He's got a Hayes 28.8 internal modem -
but the problem was happening with a different modem too.
He leaves Win Fax always running to answer faxes. I can't convince him
to close WinFax and trust that it will answer calls. He used to use
WinFax lite and never had ANY problems and is mad that I encouraged him
to upgrade when he went from his old Win3.1 386 to a Pentium with Win95.
Anyway...
The problem might be coming from one sender, but doesn't happen
everytime this sender faxes - just some times. But we think it only
happens with this particular sender. Basically, the system hangs -
(possibly the phone lines are having problems and the fax doesn't make
it as they are coming from Italy) and the modem does not reset itself.
The only thing to do is to shut the pc down and boot back up again.
I have seen the problem on my machine when I try to run PC Anywhere but
have forgotten to take WinFax off of the autoanswer mode. I have to
reboot.
Anyway- I can deal with my problem - but my client cannot deal with his.
He returns to his office with the error message "TAPI modem not
available" and has to reboot. In the meantime, he's not sure how many
faxes he has not gotten because of this. Most of his vendors are in
Italy and they fax him at 2 or 3am.
Any suggestions? I can't mollify him much longer...
