Configuration Information:
Version: pcANYWHERE32 8.0
Operating system: Windows NT 4.0 SP3

I installed pcanywhere on my computer and when I turn on the
computer, select window nt server the computer gets to the blue
screen with the dots going by and reboots. It keeps doing this until
I enter the vga mode. Once I remove pcanywhere the computer boots up
fine. The video card is a new matrox millenium g200 agp card. I was
using a ati expert@work card before this and it was working okay.

This issue has been resolved with the latest update for pcANYWHERE32
version 8.0. To determine if the latest update for pcANYWHERE32 version
8.0 has been applied, start pcANYWHERE32 then select Help / About
pcANYWHERE and verify the version number. If the version is not 8.02,
build 220, then run LiveUpdate.

To run the LiveUpdate within pcANYWHERE, select Utilities / LiveUpdate.
This procedure will run automatically and update the current version to
8.02.

If you are unable to run LiveUpdate, download 802up_a.exe (4.8 megs) from
the following URL:

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/pca/pcanywhere32_for_windows95nt.html

The following Periodic Update file from our Knowledge Base describes the
fixes with 8.02:

Document Title: pcANYWHERE32 8.0 Periodic Update File

URL: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/pca.nsf/docid/19971218122738

To avoid the blue screen when pcANYWHERE32 is installed, boot to VGA and
confirm that pcA32 is working correctly. If it is not, remove and
reinstall it always booting to VGA when required.

After a successful install, apply LiveUpdate or the 802UP_A.EXE patch file
within pcANYWHERE32 to update to version 8.02. On the next reboot, boot
normally and you should be able to access your system without the blue
screen issue.

Good luck and please let me know if the issue continues.

I installed the 8.02 patch which fixed the rebooting problem. Now
when I reboot the computer, it comes up in standard vga mode giving
me an error message stating that a invalid display driver is
installed. I attempt to install the matrox drivers again and says
that the drivers were sucessfully installed and you have to reboot. I
reboot and it puts me in standard vga mode giving me the same error
message as above. Once I remove pcanywhere and reboot than I get the
correct 1280x1024 display. If I go into the display properties and
look at the display type, it shows the current files to be mga64.sys
and mga64.dll. When i install pcanywhere, the current files are
mga64.sys and awvideo.dll. Is this correct?

Hello Ron,

Thank you for the additional information.

The next step in troubleshooting this issue is to install the latest
display drivers available from Matrox. I recommend you search their
Web site for the latest drivers and install them.

Did you reapply service pack 3 after installing pcANYWHERE?

I have the most up to date drivers. I also installed the service pack
before I installed pcanywhere.

Hello Ron,

I apologize for the confusion. Microsoft recommends you install
service pack 3 again after installing new software, not before.

I finally got around to installing service pack 3 after installing
pcanywhere8.02 and the I get the same problem. Stuck in 640x480. A
worker also tried it on a different machine with a ati video card and
he is having the same problem.

Confirm that the latest video driver for the Matrox Millennium G200 AGP is
version 3.61 for NT. If this is the case, remove pcANYWHERE32, boot to VGA
mode then reinstall pcANYWHERE32. When this is done, boot back to VGA mode
and confirm that this works correctly. After confirming this, reboot NT
using your standard boot settings and see if this corrects the issue.

If the problem continues, let me know what other programs and services are
running on the system. Also, let me know the exact video resolution and
colors being used on the system.

Best regards,
