Initially I successfully installed pc Anywhere on an NT server - (
not using the administrator option as I was just hoping to enable
remote control from my home PC). However, I had trouble with my modem
and I returned my server to my supplier. My supplier solved the modem
problem, and also installed service pack 3 for NT. In the process he
also deleted PC Anywhere.
When I tried to re-install PC Anywhere as before, It stopped
installing and requested me to "insert disk no 7". I can't remember
how, but I also obtained an "error message no 3 -
related file - winnt\syst32\awgina.1 "
I then tried to install the 'Administrator ' option - which
seemed to go through ok, - on the same machine. When, however, I
tried to install the 'workstation' installation on the same machine,
the system would not take the command-
****.exe /a command, saying that it did not exist.Bearing in mind
that all I want to do is have access to my server from
home - what am I doing wrong? thanks
Hello Andrew.

I would think that there may be a file that is corrupted on this disk
and would suggest that you use the CDROM to recreate the install
disks.

I think there may be some confusion as to how you want this to work.
The first thing I would suggest to you is to totally get rid of
pcANYWHER32 on this machine. Then, Log into the NT Server as the
local ADMINISTRATOR and install the product without any switches. IE:
No "/A" that is all you need to do. The /A switch is to copy the
install files to a server from a workstation so that you can
distribute the program among your workstations and have more control
over the security issues on the network and such.
Please let us know if this doesn't help.
Be well.

For some unknown reason, after I re-installed my NT sharing
authorisations, I had managed to give myself administrator),
read-only access to the winnt/syst32 folder !. Access to these
folders is apparently essential when installing PCA.
There's got to be a simpler way of sorting out security on NT. Also,
my supplier tells me I've got to re-run NT service pack3 every time I
install new software or devices. I just know when I've figured out
how to use NT 4.0, it's all going to be redundant in a couple of
year's time; why should I bother ?
Hello Andrew,
Thank you for the reply, and congratulations on the success.
I see you are learning to enjoy the occupation of Windows NT
administrator.
While I might be able to 'wax poetic' about the positives and negatives
of the NT operating platform, I must decline as this is not the forum for
such a discussion.
If you have any further questions or need further assistance regarding
pcANYWHERE32 v8.0, please do not hesitate to contact us here.
Good luck, Andrew.
