We have a cluster made up from 2 servers. The PCAW host on the
primary server has been working ok for some time. However when I
connected today I was stuck with the black screen with just a cursor
showing in the top left.
This just sat there for about 4 mins and I decided to recycle the PCAW
host service as usual when this happens. The service stopped ok but
now no longer restarts. Event log shows the service was started and
stopped.
The server is running Win2003 and is fully patched and upto date with
all MS patches and has Norton Antivirus Corp 9 running as well.
PCAnywhere is v11.0.1
When restarting through services a prompt appears on screen advising:-
"The pcAnywhere Host Service on Local Computer started and then
Stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do,
for example, the Performance Logs and Alert service."
If you try and start the service on the desktop by firing up PCAW and
double clicking the network host icon you get the following:-
"Could not start the requested service. Possible cause: The service
may already be running"
There are no AWHOST32.EXE processes in memory. Unfortunately we are
not in a position to reboot the server for some time so if anyone has
any idea's what we can do to restart the service without a reboot that
would be great.
