Now after installing PCA 10.5.1, I get errors on the volume. If I do a
chkdsk /f, it renders my system non-startable. Once I had to do a reformat
and install of the OS. Now, I run CHKDSK in the recovery console with the
/p option. It returns with errors with the volume, specifically the
security descriptors. File verification is fine, and indexing verification
is OK. I uninstalled PCA and the problem went away, meaning, CHKDSK
corrected the problems without incident. When I installed PCA again, I was
back to the same scenario. Symantec doesn't seem to know about this except
only from me. Apparently, no one else has had this issue.
I ran the disk defragmenter in XP and I found it curious to see that (See
way below) many, if not all, of the PCA files cannot be defragmented. Does
this mean anything to anyone ?
Any comments appreciated. Thank you.

It appears that Symantec is incorrect about you being the only one with this problem...see the post from Night Watch.
Just a caveat, I have found that over the years Symantec has become less and less reliable for software products. In every instance where I can find an alternate program, I use it. (This is a strictly my personal experience)

They do seem to be losing their credibility.

I know NT has its inherent different characteristics than 9x, but it would
be so nice do a CHKDSK, Scandisk, or Norton Disk Doctor to an active NT
drive without having to guess there are errors on the drive regardless of
the result of the check ? Serious Grounds for reformatting to FAT32 and
forget the xtras you get with NTFS - is it really worth the hassle ?
