Can't remove LiveUpdate, help

I had norton antivirus that used LiveUpdate. I think it is 3.0.0.166.

I decided not to renew the antivirus so I used the Win XP to remove the
antivirus but the damn LiveUpdate remains and it is trying to contact
Symantec every few miniutes.

There is no LiveUpdate in the Win XP "add/remove programs list so I cannot
remove it in the normal way.

I tried to install LU again to see if that would help. LU thinks it is
already installed (it is) and nothing changes.

Crap, there it goes again.

How do I remove LU without screwing up my Win XP?
