Which supported Symantec/Norton product(s) provides command-line
access for anti-virus scanning, preferably on Win XP?

I have read, unofficially, that it can be done with Norton Corporate
Edition 10.x but that its results are frequently inaccurate.

Is there a supported option for command-line anti-virus scanning
from Symantec in a product for Windows server (2003 or other) ?

Thank you.

I don't know of a Symantec CLS but my Multi AV Scanning Tool provides four different command
line scanners.

You may want to try it.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28400/28470/Multi_AV.exe

http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

English:
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/01/09/scan-your-computer-with-multiple-anti-virus-for-free/

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

I have found some information on VPSCAN, which comes in the
'unsupported' folder in our SAV Corporate Edition 10.1.7.7000
distribution, here:
http://tinyurl.com/28q995 (redirects to a http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT....
URL)

I have installed it on a WinXP Professional environment (VM). It
APPEARS to be exactly what I need. While it behaves mostly as
advertised, I cannot seem to find where the results/logs are being
deposited. In the above referenced document, it states:

>....
> For Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.x, the default locations for the log files are as follows:
>
> * Windows 2000/XP/2003
> %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Logs

However, there is no 'Application Data' folder within the 'All
Users' folder on my system. There's no folder with the word
'Corporate' or '7.5' in it anywhere on my system.... so things must've
changed since that documentation was written. And/or perhaps the XP
Pro build that I'm using wasn't out yet at the time... Version 5.1
(Build 2600.xpclient.010817.-1148)

Could someone please point me if a productive direction on this?

Thanks.

Dave,
Thanks for your suggestion. I will, eventually, try it out. I
have passed the information on to others as well.
