I am not sure what you are referring to by font shifting, however the following is my best guess as to the meaning.
TrueType font scaling issue. One of the situations that you are in is that you are printing to both a 300 dpi (or higher dpi) device
and a 100 or 200 dpi device, depending upon resolution. So, why would that be an issue with a scalable font? It has to do with
tweaking the pixels to make the characters look good.
If we had a TrueType character that, once rendered, was 37 pixels tall on the DeskJet, to be exactly the same size on a 200 dpi fax,
it would have to be 24.7 pixels tall. Well, unfortunately, we live in the digital world, so 24.7 must be turned into either 24 or 25
pixels. Once we have done that, the font for the fax is a different size, even though Word indicates the same point size value on
the ribbon.
By the time you add up a whole page worth of text that is slightly different, you see your text breaking in different locations,
both with word wrapping and page breaks.
One thing that might help is to format the entire document for a fixed line spacing. By default (line spacing set to "Auto"), Word
will compute line spacing based on the size of the text that is on each line (taller characters getting more line spacing). The line
spacing option can be changed to "Exactly", which will then allow you to specify a measurement such as "1 li". This will provide
exactly 6 lines of text per inch no matter what the resolution of your output device.
Text width is also affected by the same phenomena. Unfortunately, Word doesn't have enough control there to ensure identical word
wrapping between the two devices.

What I mean by font shifting is that I have a form that is created
using Magic, a development application. It has bolded font and
various font sizes. When we send the fax to Winfax pro 4 to process
the form remains as intended. On upgraded versions of Winfax the
form will also remain as intended. On PCs which we install WinFax
PRo 8 as a new install the entire fax form is altered to have the
same size font with no bolding. Word is not involved in the process.
What is the configuration or process which is required to make WinFax
v8 retain the form & font which is sent to it from another
application? It is retained in the upgrade from Winfax v4 to v8 but
not in clean installs.
