Strange Problem with WinFax and hp PrecisionScan.

Win95, WinFax 8.03, PrecisionScan 1.01, hp 5100Cse scanner, Pentium
200 with 64Meg.

I can scan from within any application _except_ WinFax. WinFax
declares that the scanner is not responding. Yet I can scan from
PrecisionScan _into_ WinFAx.

I'm tearing my hair and just about ready to dump WinFax.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your scanner software is failing to launch properly when
called from within Winfax.

WinFax itself doesn't generate scanner not responding messages. It
uses twain to access the scanner software. Any hardware related
initialization is done by the twain module in the scanner software.

The only reason I can think of as to why the problem only shows up in
Winfax is a hardware conflict that involves the scanner interface card
and your modem. I suggest that you check the IRQ and/or port addresses
of the scanner interface to ensure that they aren't clashing with the
settings used by your modem.

Jonathan

I had this happen a couple of years ago with HP Deskscan and Winfax. In my
case a newer version of Winfax fixed the problem. Both companies insisted
the problem was with the other...... You might check for any patches or
upgrades to either Precision Scan or Winfax - or even see if you can get a
slightly older version of either one.

Changed from Twain(16) to Twain(32)...that fixed the problem. The
puzzle is that it used to work then quit. Maybe one of my other
software installs perverted the works.
