Anyone help me. I've got Word 97 (from Office CD) installed & working
fine. I've applied SR1 & SR2 patch from CD as well.
I've got Winfax 8.02 installed & working fine.
What I can't do is get the Word97 macro from Winfax to install. The
DOC file loads, I say YES to opening it because it has macros inside.
After clicking on INSTALL MACRO I set all options then click FINISH.
The HD starts, things seem to happen but the installing screen stays
the mouse pointer stays as an egg-timer in the window, but changes to
normal pointer if moved outside. Nothing happens. A CTL-ALT-DEL shows:
Word97 - Normal (not responding)
All I can do is end the task. On checking the TEMP dir there are a
number of .TMP files and a few directories created.
A bit of info about my system:
WINDOWS 95 is in c:\windows
TEMP is in d:\temp
WINWORD.EXE is in d:\program files\microsoft office\office\
I've checked through the registry incase any path names etc are wrong.
I did have a previous version of WORD97 installed on my PC when
purchased (but without all the add-ons installed like WordArt) & the
macros did install with that, but I UNINSTALLED that via ADD/REMOVE
PROGRAMS and the install from the Office CD didn't give any errors or
indication that it found a previous version.

Nope.
First: Winfax ->Tools there is not macro installer option
but, I did delete NORMAL.DOT, run the macro installer and it gave an
error about using the same name as an open file!
So I closed Word. Check the TEMPLATE->USER folder & found a new
NORMAL.DOT. Ran the WORD97.DOC file supplied by Winfax with same
result. The bottom of the screen in Word says its opening NORMAL.DOT
0 bytes (??!), then copying styles, then copying macros. This is when
Word stop responding.
Anyone any more ideas?
