Configuration Information:
Operating system: --Other--

WinFax 7.0.2 will not send or receive because it says thee is no
modem. In setup, I've run and run and run install modem to no avail.
It goes through the steps of finind and installing, but when it is
all over it never shows up as available in the modem window. The
"test port" function works and finds it.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled WF. I bought and installed a new
modem. Nothing. The modem and the fax are recognized by all my other
communications applications. I can fax out of Bitfax (but realy don't
like it).
I just purchase ACT! 4.0 and so loaded the trial 8.0 (on another
drive). 8.0 also has the same problem. Since it is not my hardware
(brand new) and all other applications read and function, can you
tell me what it wrong or what can be conflicting with WF? I've spend
about 20 hours tearing my hardware and software apart. I even
restored an old registry file from a time when WinFax was working
fine. I've put on some new software...hotsync for a 3Com palm pilot
that uses COM4. but I've pulled it.
I am in Windows 95 (950.A). The modem is on com3. there is nothing on
com1 or com2 (disabled).
Any ideas? Please and thanks......
ED

Hi Ed,
You never stated what modem you are using?
Please view of supported modem list:

WinFax 7.x

TalkWorks 7.x

WinFax 8.0

This link will download the WinFax PRO 8.0 Modem List file
(WFX8LIST.EXE) to your computer. After you have downloaded the file,
double click it to create an HTML which you can view in your web
browser.

TalkWorks 8.0
http://service.symantec.com/twk8list.html

The lists are different for both Winfax and Talkworks.
A modem that works with Talkworks will work with Winfax, but one that
is supported by Winfax may not be supported byTalkworks.

Unsupported modems sometimes work if installed as Windows Standard
Modem.

I have a similar but slightly different issue:

Like the previous person, all my other comms software has no problem
with my TDK56k modem, but WinFax says it cannot find TAPI, or connect
through TAPI.

I have fored it in the past by setting WInFax to COM2, but that only
works sporadically, and lately not at all.

There seems to be a difficluty in Winfax co-existing with my browser
on the same modem.

Like the previous person, I have spent a LOT OF TIME on this issue,
and luckily I think I have been able to find an alternative - an
Internet service that will deliver Fax-via-IP.

That would by far be the best option rather than stuffing about with
dialling in, swaping betwen Internet and faxing etc etc.

Anyway, this other option isn't finalised yet, so in the meantime I
still have the problem of not being able to function in a truly
mobile fashion with my notebook doing everything one could reasonably
expect it to do, like faxing.

Looking forward to your early reply.

Sincerely

Hans,

Please try the following:

Uninstall and reinstall the modem in Windows:

1. Exit all running programs.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, then select Control Panel. The
Control Panel window displays.
3. Double click Modems. The Modems Properties dialog displays.
4. Select the modem that is installing incorrectly, then click
Remove.
5. Click Add. The Modem Setup wizard launches.
6. Check Don't Detect My Modem; I Will Select It From A List. Click
Next to proceed.
7. Under Manufacturer, select your modem's manufacturer.
8. Under Models, select the modem listed.
9. Click Next / Finish.

Reconfigure the modem in WinFax PRO:

1. From the Setup menu, choose Modem. The Modem Setup dialog
displays.
2. Select the modem you installed in Windows.
3. Click on Properties. A dialog box appears and asks if you want to
configure the modem in WinFax PRO: click Yes.
4. Continue the configuration of the modem in WinFax PRO.

Sincerely,
