I installed Winfax Pro 8.0 witn Talkworks 8.0 just a couple of days
ago. I bought a microphone to use the speakerphone capability of my
modem with Talkworks.
When I unhook the phone, first there is no sound of the phone signal
on the speakers, I wonder if it should sound at this moment.
Secondly, I dial a number, and then Talkworks crashes. A message
appears: "Answer enable - Buffer allocation error".
Third, the phone line does not hang up. I have to actually restart
the computer to hang up the line.
A recommendation from a Symantec Technical Support Engineer of
unchecking the FIFO buffers box in the Control
Panel\Modems\Properties\Connection\Port Settings box did not work. By
unchecking this box it also affects my internet connection. Also
another message appeared: "Voice Interpreter - No response from
modem".
My modem is a Viva CommCenter 56srm, with a Rockwell chipset. It
works without any problems to connect to the internet.

Make sure you have an updated unimodemv driver, available from our CD.

Set the number of rings to 2 or higher:

Choose Receive from the Setup menu in WinFax PRO. The Receive
Properties dialog box appears.
In the Answer after field type a number equal to or greater than 2.

Your particular WinFax PRO or TalkWorks configuration will determine
the procedure to follow. Follow the section which describes your
configuration.

Multiple Mailboxes

The profile may be corrupted. Delete the profile and create it again.
If the above doesn't work, delete all mailboxes, all profiles and all
*.VMU files in the \WINFAX\DATA directory. Perform a custom
reinstallation of the WinFax and TalkWorks program files.

Fax on Demand Systems Which use Cover Pages

In the Fax on Demand mailbox properties, make sure there is a subject
in the cover page Subject field.

Fax Only Profiles

Click on TalkWorks then Setup. The TalkWorks Properties dialog box
appears.
Choose Fax Only as the Active profile and click OK.

You can play with some of the Windows sound settings and choose the
one that might work best with this modem. That's about all you can do
to help it sound better.
