I am trying to use Internet Explorer over a network using PC Anywhere
8.0. I have a host PC with an installed modem. The remote PC has no
modem but both PCs have PCAnywhere 8.0 installed. Both PCs have
TCP/IP, Netbieu, and IPX/SPX installed.
I have been successful in setting up the modem PC as a gateway (using
IPX) and the client PC (using IPX) and connecting to a BBS.
However, I understand that to use IE over the network a host (not
gateway) must be set up using TCP/IP. I have done that (both host and
client), but have not been successful in establishing a connect
between the two PCs. Below is the sequence of events and messages
that appear on the client.
1) I start the host and it appears to start and run normally. (Setup
as outlined in your online support document "Using pcAnwhere over an
Internet Connection" using TCP/IP.
2) I start pcAnywhere on the remote, set the remote up as outlined in
your online support document "Using pcAnywhere over an Internet
Connection" (Network Icon under Remote Control). I enter the correct
IP address and start the remote.
3) It starts and shows the message "Initializing communications" for
about 4 minutes.
4) After about 4 minutes the message "Connecting to 169.254.49.233"
appears for about 45 seconds.
5) After a short while the message "Timeout looking for connection"
appears.
6) Then the message "PCAnywhere No Connection" appears.
I have tried many many variations on the above, all without success.
Any assistance you can provide in resolving this would be greatly
appeciated.
Thank you
