Trying to install pcAnywhere on an NT 4.0 Server (German OS, SP3)
results in a crash in process WINLOGON.EXE after the reboot required
by the installation software.
The same phenomena was observed on an Nt 4.0 Workstation (German OS,
SP3).
The problem is, that when NT starts its logon process (this is
WINLOGON.EXE), it somehow fails in certain routines after pcAnywhere
was installed.
The result is a bluescreen before getting the chance to interfere.
It seems that pcAnywhere is exchanging some essential parts of the OS
kernel, but the whole procedure is prob. not very well designed as
checking the discussion groups on the German Symantec server has
shown some more customers obtaining similar crashes.
The German hotline of Symantec only produced a hint for doument DocID
19981711436 after spelling WINLOGON.EXE to them.
This answer was not qualified at all as the problem described in
there doesn't relate to the above mentioned.
As the whole installation damaged the server (as well as the
workstation) to a condition, that it could be set back into operation
by reinstalling the OS, I'd rate the above mentioned problem as
serious !
Any hints or assistance will be highly appreciated !
