I just changed computers and I had pcANYWHERE Host v4.5 set up on my
WIN 95 computer.
The remote software vendor uses Remote version 8.x and tells me that
I cannot use 4.5 but must upgrade to Host v8.
Is this true; or is he just trying to sell me the new version?
Dana Burian (Symantec) 01:55 AM, Sep 19 PST says to Brad Harrold (Sep
18) "Yes, you can connect between the different versions of
pcANYWHERE."
Is there a problem with Remote v8 connecting with Host v4.5?

pcANYWHERE version 4.5 does not run under Windows 95, and is not
supported on this operating system. This version only works under DOS.

pcANYWHERE32 should be able to connect to a pcANYWHERE 4.5, if version
4.5 is running under DOS. However, we have not tested this because
version 4.5 was discontinued by Symantec over five years ago. The
current version for DOS is pcANYWHERE 5.0. (This version also does not
work under Windows 95.)
If you want to use pcANYWHERE on Windows 95, you must use either
pcANYWHERE 2.0 (for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95), or preferably
pcANYWHERE32 8.0 (for Windows 95, 98, NT).
All current versions of pcANYWHERE can connect fine to any other
current version, regardless of its operating system that it runs
under.

I believe Dana was most likely pointing out the above information that
I mentioned:
1. pcANYWHERE 4.5 is a discontinued product, and is no longer
supported. We inform customers of discontinued products so that they
can upgrade their versions for continued support.
2. pcANYWHERE 4.5 only works in DOS.
3. We are not certain if pcANYWHERE32 version 8.0 can connect to it,
but it should, as far as we know. Version 4.5 is very similar to 5.0,
its successor.
The best solution is to upgrade to a pcANYWHERE version that works on
your host's operating system, Windows 95.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
