Original Problems with Microsoft Office 2000 on my PC Clone:
(Specifications: Drive C = 10 gigs, Drive D = 7 Gigs, Drive E 10 Gigs.

[All Maxtor Drives]; 128 Megs of Ram. Pentium II Processor 233 Mhz:
PC is operating at about 75% efficiency.

(1) Microsoft Word: tells me that I don't have enough disk space or
memory to load the program. (There were originally 1.6 Gigs free, and
the PC, operating at 75%, has 128 megs of ram.)

(2) Microsoft Excel:

When loading the program each time, it brings up about 40 OLD OLD files,

stating that these files are in the wrong format. (Most of them were
WORD files, not Excel Files, but there were some of EACH! The only fact
of consistency in this mess is that none of the old files that are being

brought up have been upgraded to Office 2000 formatting.) The PC takes
you to each file, one at a time, and asks if it is OK, which is the only

option. The only way to end this process is to do Control - Alt-
Delete, and cancel loading Excel. Otherwise, after going through this
lengthy operation, the program appears to be responding normally.

Message given by Windows at attempt to run SCAN DISK reads:

"Cannot check this drive now because the disk is not properly formatted,

or a program such as a disk utility has locked it. Format the disk (I
would rather not re-format this disk!) or wait for the utility to
finish, and then re-start Scan Disk."

How can I determine what utility or utilities are locked?

Possible cause of locking:

I am running (or HAVE been) Office 2000. Thinking that I had a problem
in Office, I un-installed Disk One, then attempted to Un-install Disk 2
and it locked up. I did Control-Alt-Delete to exit the operation. Then

I attempted to Re-install Disk Two of Office 2000. Same problem, it
locked up, and then I had to Control-Alt-Delete. Then I attempted to
REPAIR the INSTALLATION of Office 2000. Same Problem. So I think Disk
2 is probably the cause of this problem.

Notes: I have cleaned up Drive C. Cleaning out Temp Files and Internet

Temp Files, I have gone from 1.6 Gigs free to 3.5 gigs free.

Any suggestions?

Please advise.
Thanks
