Hello Mike,

Thank you for using our online discussion groups.

Does this occur if the host, as a remote, connects to the remote, as a
host, and performs the file transfer?

Modems that are set to use high data rates, such as 115200, can often
cause this type of issue. The faster the modems try to connect, the
more likely they are to have issues due to incompatibilities between
the modems or problematic phone lines. Decreasing the maximum data
rate often helps to establish connections and to stabilize them.

Decreasing the data rate can help connections that are problematic or
slow. Phone lines that have line noise, or are shared or split, can
also benefit from lower speeds. Decreasing the data rate in these
cases is providing a work around for an existing outside issue, but it
is not resolving it.

I recommend decreasing the speeds of remote and host modems to help
resolve this issue. This needs to be done on both the remote and host.
The following steps will walk you through doing this:

1. From the main window of pcANYWHERE32, right click on the icon that
you will be using for your modem connection such as the MODEM icon.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Details button.
4. The Maximum speed is displayed at the bottom. Decrease this to the
next lowest setting.
5. Click on the OK button.
6. Click on the next OK button. This will take you back to the main
window of pcANYWHERE32.

If a lower speed does not help then set the speed down to the next
lower one on both the remote and host. Keep decreasing it until it
works, or until it is as low as 9600. If it is still not working at
9600, then there is most likely some other issue involved.

What types of modems are the remote and host using? Are they internal
or external? What COM ports and IRQs are they using?

For more information on troubleshooting modem issues, I recommend the
following documents that are available on our Knowledge Base:
