Lee,

This is caused by running Personal Web Server and having security
turned on. Turn off security in Personal Web Server and it should
work properly.

My computer crashes each time I try a "FIND" in Registry Editor, too,
as was reported by Lee Lawrence on 05 Aug.

You advised:

I clicked on the Personal Web Server icon in Ctrl Panel and there's
no mention of "security", and Pers Web was already "STOPPED".

A "Security" tab can be found at the Internet Properties, which I
keep on Medium. Is this the "security" to which you're referring?? I
see no way to turn it "off"

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I'm not computer illiterate, but much of this is completely foreign
to me. Whoever writes this documentation assumes way way too much of
the average end user.

After reading the "More Details" mumbo jumbo for MS Personal Web
Server Properties (via Control Panel), I still have NO idea what will
happen if I disable Personal Web Server... will I still be able to
create and upload my web site using MS Front Page if this is
disabled??

Or, will I have to walk backwards through the convoluted steps
detailed in the Symantec Knowledge Base entry you pointed me towards
(RE: "Turning off security") after running the FIND command??

Are we expected to follow these machinations every time we want to
run the FIND command?? If so, is there a Regedit application lurking
in Win95 that will do the same thing without having to labor through
all these steps?

L.,

I've never run Personal Web Server myself, so I don't know offhand.
It's my understanding that this procedure will only change some of the
security measures on your system that prevent the Norton Registry
Editor from working. All other functions of the Personal Web Server
should be unaffected. Microsoft can confirm this.
