Configuration Information:
Version: NU95 version 3.x
Operating system: Windows 98

I accidently deleted an important zip archive when clearing the
recycle bin. I started to scream murder when I remembered that I had
installed Norton Utilities a few days earlier!!!
I have quickly managed to successfully restored a Zip archive with
Unerase Wizard. However the Archive itself does not work any more,
WinZip does not recognise it as a valid archive.
Winzip message: "Cannot Open File: It does not appear to be a valid
archive. if you downloaded this file, try downloading it again.
please prss F1 for Help"

F1 did not give any instruction other than saying that the file might
be corrupted and to try and downlaod it again. ( his zip archive was
never downloaded but crated locally on my system wit the same version
of Winzip.)
The unerased archive is of the same size as the original ( 4 mg.
I tried to reproduce the problem by creating a new Zip archive and
deleting it. Norton Unerase had no problem recovering it and WinZip
to recognise it as a valid Zip archive.

It seems that this particular archive has been corrupted at some
stage; either by Microsoft Delete process or by Symantec Unerase
process.

Can you help ?

Olivier,

It sounds like the file you recovered was fragmented. Unfortunately,
fragmented files will not recover properly unless the file is coming
from the Recycle Bin or Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

The only possible way to recover the file would be through direct disk
edit, or a data recovery service that works on zip disks.

If any part of the archive has been overwritten, the file may not be
fully recoverable.

Let us know if there are any other questions we can help with.
