Win2000, Norton, Dreamweaver 4 - lost HTML file.

Hi

I just lost some *critical* data by accidentally
copying on old file over the top the new file.

Because I erased it by copying over, (using
Windows Explorer) rather than by actually
"deleting" it, it isnt in the Norton Protected
Recycle Bin.

Is there any hope of recovery !!???

- What about trying to recover the temporary files .HTML
that Dreamweaver 4 creates? Is there any way to recover
them either... ?

- Any suggestions

*** PLEASE HELP!! ***

P.S. I've looked in my browser caches, but unfortunately
because I was working beside my customer, unusually
I didnt view this .HTML file in a browser as we worked
on it...

Backups would be your hope of recovery.. Unless you were running some sort
of file recovery utility.. (UNDELETE, etc..)

i think you're out of luck unless you have a backup. Saving a file over the
old uses the same sectors on the disk..

there is a program called Undelete (http://execsoft.com) that will save a
unique copy every time you hit 'save,' so it can serve as sort of a version
control system... but it won't help you now, only in the future.

In the end I got it back. MIRACLE!
Using this stuff called FinalData.

Pretty good stuff once I got it going :)
- though the serial number took unfeasibly
long to arrive.

It saved my life anyhow. My only serious
complaint was the price - about GBP 80.00 !!

You mean, it is expensive?
Some 120 EUR or about the same in USD isn't much if you compare it to the
cost of labor wasted if a file you've spent hours on is washed out into the
great great sea of lost data... Think of customer data ready to ship, and --
zap! - they're history! Now, start all over again, with a deadline
impending?
It's cheap, like any good emergency tool.
And what's more, now you have it. My experience of two decades of computing
tells me that from now on you don't have to worry about ever needing to use
it again ... *g* -- somewhat like the insurance policy: If you've paid it,
nothing happens. Forget to pay, insurance void, and kablam! there goes your
(formerly) insured object...
