Nprotect is causing my cpu to be overloaded!?! Surfing the web is
max'ing it out. And no it is not a 8086!!! (heehee)

When i kill norton protect it is fine, if I start it up it is bad!!!
Plane and simple. What's up with that?? (doc...)

I can kill all tasks but "Nprotect" and Exploer (of course) and
everything is bad (cpu going crazy, 25 to 50 percent at idel), kill
"Nprotect" cpu goes down to 2 to 3 percent.
What did you guys do to it on the last revision?

OK, if I must tell the truth, I added a IBM ultrastar 9ez scsi drive
to my system. But I don't really know when this problem started, it
may have been the root of a scsi compatibility problem I was having,
or thought I was having. I added before the scsi drive a Yamaha 4260
cdrw drive which caused some compatibility problems on my Adaptec
Scsi Card (2940UW), it seemed that it wasn't compatible with my
Iomega Jazz 1GB drive or my Plextor UltraPlex CDr drive. Everything
was fine after the Yamaha drive was moved to its own scsi card, but
it is fine sharing that bus with a Iomega Zip 100 Plus drive. (Damn
i got a lot of crap!!) The Ibm scsi drive was added to replace a
drive that was removed to free up a interupt by disabling the second
ide controler, so i could add the second scsi card to isolate the
cdrw drive.

But, maybe this was my problem all along (Nprotect) and my cdrw drive
was compatible on the other scsi bus with all the other scsi devices.
I guess I will never know, I will have to stand by the saying "don't
fix what isn't broken" now because eveything seems fine. Except
Norton Protect.

I found this out by randomly killing running tasks untill the cpu
percentage droped down. But it will overtask the cpu even if it is
the only task running, so it isn't a problem with a running task but
probably a loaded driver.

I had also had a problem of a "blue screen of death" on bootup for a
while that sayed "Explorer didn't load correctly, please reinstall
windows98," somthing like that. Reboot and windows would boot up
fine. Which seem to have gone away now that i disables Norton
protect.

My system is a Pentium II, 400MHz; Tyan Tiger 100 Motherboard; 256 MB
of 100MHz ram; Two Scsi Cards (one Adaptec 2940UW and the other a
SIIG ultra scsi pro card); Two ide drives on the primary Ide
controler; Scsi hard drive on the Adaptec SCSI card; cdrw scsi drive,
Yamaha; cdr scsi drive, Plextor; jazz and zip drive, both scsi; Ati
All-in-Wonder Pro; 56Kflex V.90 modem (digitan); SB compatible sound
card (digitan); Altec Lansing ADA 305 speakers (usb); Hp Scanjet 5s;
Hp laser jet 6l; Cordless MouseMan Pro; 300 Watt power supply; and
alot of dust in the case that the three cooling fans blow in
(heehee). Oh, and i forgot about the voodoo2 12MB SB card.

Any help will be app.

Oh, I have the latest versions of Adaptec Direct CD, Easy CD Creator,
and EZ-SCSI 5.0 utilities, may be important, as well as MS Visual
basic 5.0 and MS Visual C++5.0

Thanks for your help in advance,
Eric "Irk" Anderson

So far Norton Utilities has been a life saver, keep up the good work.

Eric,

Try the following:

1> Restart your computer in MS DOS mode by going to START>SHUTDOWN and
choosing RESTART IN MS DOS MODE.
2> When you get a DOS prompt, type CD\ and press the [ENTER] key.
3> Next, type DELTREE RECYCLED and press the [ENTER] key.
4> Answer YES to the prompt.
5> Restart your computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL.

This will reset your recycled bin.

Let me know how that goes.
