NDD failure to surface test

Configuration Information:
Version: NU95 version 3.x
Operating system: --Other--

I have been trying to use NDD on the original floppies to rescue a
lap top that wouldn't boot. With the emergency discs the system
boots to NDD, although in the process it gives an error message
"unable to find compression driver...reinstall from disc". NDD scans
successfully, but then when it starts the surface test, it never
progresses due to an error message "close floppy disc drive and try
again---[retry] [cancel]". The floppy is always closed, and booted
OK, and never spins once NDD is running, but it can't test past the
first 1000 clusters or so on the hard drive due to this error. Is
there anything I can do to rescue the computer?

Win 95 boot disk boots too, but the disc scan program also hangs (w/o
error messages) in the first few clusters.

Thanks.

Stephen,

From the sounds of things, you've done everything we can do here
online. You should contact our telephone technical support where they
can discuss data recovery.

Due to the intense nature of data recovery, we do not attempt it here
online.

If the Norton Disk Doctor or Unerase Wizard is unable to find and/or
recover the files, you'll need to give the technicians on the
telephone a call for further assistance.

The reason for this is this procedure requires a different course of
action for nearly every recovery. Since it's a step by step process,
it could take days or weeks to do this online, and nothing else could
be done on your computer until the job is done.

You should call the phone queue at 1-541-465-8440 as soon as possible.
A delay could mean an unrecoverable file.

Let us know if there are any other questions we can help with.
