Under Windows95, I have several Excel spreadsheets with the
XM.Laroux.E virus. NAV 2.0 says it repaired it, but when I try to
open the repaired file I get a 'file format not valid' error.
Please advise...need file.
Hello Mark,
Thanks for visiting the Norton AntiVirus Online Support area.
While NAV has repaired this virus, you may need to do some additional
housekeeping to get things running correctly again. Please refer to our
Knowledge Base document,

"Problems Repairing Excel Macro Viruses or Excel Does Not Operate Properly
After Repair."
Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

>> It seems that the virus that those spreadsheets have is the XM.Laroux.AE (not .E). I followed the knowledge base solution you recommended but I still get an error when opening the file that reads 'filename.xls: file format is not valid'. Help!
Hello Mark,
I'm sorry to hear that the KB solution didn't help. It sounds like
the header information on these spreadsheets is corrupted. Do you
still have a copy of the deleted .VI? backup file in the recycle bin?
We may need to take a look at the file to determine what is going on
with the virus and the virus repair. To submit a sample, please use
Notepad to fill out the SUBMIT.TXT file located
at:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/antivirus_definitions/norton_antivirus/submit.txt
Make sure to include complete information or the sample will be
rejected. Then, make a copy of your NORMAL.DOT file, your PERSONAL.XLS
file, and any other suspicious documents. Follow the instructions at
the bottom of the INSTRUCT.TXT file for submitting file infecting
viruses to our Symantec Antivirus Research Center. The INSTRUCT.TXT
file is located at:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/antivirus_definitions/norton_antivirus/instruct.txt
The sample should be sent to avsu...@symantec.com
Regards,
