Hi.
I have a computer at home running on Window 95. It is now in compatibility
mode. It doesn't
recognize the CD-ROM. When I try to access a floppy in windows (one that is
write protected, at least), it says it's not formatted. "Do you want to
format it?". There's a message upon booting in safe mode stating a virus or
MBR modified, but I found out it was a virus all right. I scanned some
floppies with a portable computer running NAV v. 5.0. It found the
AntiCMOS.a virus on them. Now, I cannot boot from either a DOS startup disk
or NAV boot disk, because they the system freeze. What should I do? I
didn't try to boot with HD and MS-DOS prompt only, to access the NAV disk,
but even if it enabled me to do so, the virus would still be in memory. I
tried, in BIOS Setup program to disable the HD and putting the jumper on
"use other battery", in order to wipe out the CMOS info, but it doesn't work
either (I couldn't remove the battery itself. It is either a round battery
glued or soldered, and I didn't want to break anything).

Any idea?

Well, if worst comes to worst then reinstall your original HD settings via
CD-ROM setup disk that came with your PC. It may be a PITA, but you'll be able
to start from scratch.

InVircible automatically removes AntiCMOS from the infected drive, on
startup, wihout needing to boot clean. You'll have to remove NAV from your
startup files for the cleanup as IV and NAV do not coexist.
