I want to set up a scan in the Windows 98 task scheduler. I have
tried the /L switch and it briefly brings up the scan (about 1
second) the log file says the program was shut down by a system
administrator.
I have also tried the /A switch and here is where the problem
occurs. It will start up the NAV scan great BUT... it thinks my
CD-Rom is a networked drive and that it is locked. I have douoble
checked the settings in NAV to make sure it isn't setup to scan a
network. The only way that NAV will get by this "locked" drive is
for human intervention to click the "skip" button. This defeats the
purpose of using the scheduler. I would like to run this unattended
at night without me having to click the skip button.
HELP!!!!!
Scheduling an Event:
1. Click the Add Schedule Task button.
2. Click Next to let wizard run.
3. Once the Wizard displays a list of programs, click the browse button.
4. Navigate to your Norton AntiVirus Folder.
5. Locate and select the NAVW32 program file.
6. Select a Name you wish displayed in the scheduler (NAV Scan).
7. Select the frequency that you want it to run. and select Next.
8. Select the time and date you want it to run.
9. Click OK to save.
10. Select the task, Right Click and select properties.
11. On the Run line, after the quotes ("), add the command line switch /L
12. Click OK to save.
Here are some additional switches that can be used:
NAVW32 [pathname] [options]
pathname Any valid drive, folder, or file, or combination. if you want to
scan a combination
if items, use a space to separate the items. You can use wildcards when
specifying
pathnames for a group of files.
/A Scan All drives or all Local drives. A: and B: are skipped. Network
drives are
scanned if the Allow Network Scanning options is selected in the Scanner
Advanced Settings dialog box.
/L Scan All drives or all Local drives. A: and B: are skipped.
/S[+|-] All subfolders of any folders specified in the pathname
are also scanned.
/M[+|-] Enables or disables scanning of memory.
/MEM Only scan memory.
/B[+|-] Enables or disables scanning of boot records.
/BOOT Scan the boot sectors ONLY of all specified drives.

Thanks for the help it was in fact a setting problem. The box
labeled "stop running if computer is in use" was checked. Now it
runs like it should.

Hello M.G.
Thanks for letting us know what was happening. This sounds like something we
may need to add to our Knowledge Base!
